**The Opportunity**:
The City of Selkirk is currently in search of Urban Forestry and Naturalization Seasonal Labourers to join our team for the summer. These individuals will perform general labourer duties related to our urban forestry and naturalization initiatives.

**Job Duties**:

- Carry out the labour duties related to urban forestry, naturalization, flowers, and other green initiatives.
- Labour duties may include pruning trees and shrubs, tree removals, gardening tasks, watering plants and trees, weeding flower beds, planting plants, and sowing seeds.
- Carry out labour duties within all public parks, playgrounds, athletic fields, municipal building grounds, and other green spaces.
- Operate safely a variety of hand tools and small equipment such as weed trimmers, push mowers, roto tillers, chainsaws, pole saws and other equipment like motorized power equipment.
- Utilize various forms of technology, including computers, tablets, and cell phones, to communicate effectively and perform minor administrative tasks.
- Utilize the city’s tree inventory software to conduct tree inspections and inventory updates as trees are planted, maintained, or removed.
- Perform pre-trip inspections, routine checks, minor servicing, cleaning and basic maintenance of equipment.
- Inform the Manager or Mechanic of any required maintenance or safety problems of equipment or vehicles.
- While carrying out daily tasks, the Labourer must practice established safety rules and regulations for the protection of self, fellow employees, the public and property, or equipment operated by being continuously aware of the department's existing and new safety procedures.
- Competent in the operation of pick-up trucks with or without attached trailers for the purpose of transporting material as required.
- Establish and maintain positive working relationships with employees at all levels of the organization, contractors, and the public, in accordance with the Respectful Workplace Policy.
- Provide support services with the City of Selkirk Emergency Plan in the event of an emergency as required.
- Provide support and training to other employees as required.
- Perform other tasks as assigned.

**Qualifications/Minimum Requirements**:
Minimum Requirements shall include:
Education, Knowledge and Experience
- Grade 12 education or General Education Development (G.E.D.)
- Education in forestry, environmental science, biology, agriculture, or horticulture is considered an asset.
- Valid WHMIS Certification
- Valid Manitoba Class 5 Driver's Licence
- Chainsaw Safety Certification preferred.
- Horticulture, landscaping, forestry, and/or tree maintenance experience preferred.

- Must be able to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. This includes the ability to understand written and verbal instructions.
- Demonstrated ability to operate a pick-up truck competently with an attached trailer.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with individuals at all levels of the organization and external contacts.
- Must be physically able to perform all duties associated with the position.

**Comments**:
This is for a Seasonal position ranging from April 29th - August 30th, 2024. This opportunity is open to all applicants. This seasonal position is applicable to union dues but is not entitled to any benefits or entitlement under the Collective Agreement except for Article 24. This position will require the incumbent able to work in an outdoor environment, including extreme weather conditions such as heat, cold, rain, wind, and dust. Must be able to work evening and weekend shifts and/or overtime as required.
