Members of the Army Reserve serve part-time in the Canadian Armed Forces. Their main role is to support the Regular Force at home and abroad. Army Reservists typically serve one, or more, evenings a week and/or during weekends at locations close to home. Army Reservists may volunteer to deploy on international and domestic operations.
Artillery Gunners are the main work-force of an Artillery Regiment. They are responsible for loading, aiming and firing the 105mm Howitzer Canon. They are also responsible for maintaining all ancillary equipment. Further Career development leads to highly specialized technical skills involving target acquisition, firing data calculation.
Every winter, The Royal Canadian Artillery Reserves, included in the 39th Canadian Brigade Group, is relied upon to deploy on "Operation Palaci". This important Domestic Operation requires that British Columbian Artillery Guns and Personnel deploy regularly, on a three month rotation to Roger's Pass in British Columbia. Roger's Pass is a key highway between Revelstoke B.C. and Golden B.C., and is the main supply artery connecting British Columbia to Alberta. It is also one of the most dangerous avalanche zones in British Columbia, and has caused much damage to infrastructure. Avalanches here in the past have claimed the lives of many everyday Canadians. The Artillery Regiments in British Columbia are essential in keeping this pathway open, saving lives, and preserving a very important piece of BC infrastructure. Thus, protecting industry and supplying small BC communities with food, and other essential goods.
Come with us as we proudly serve British Columbians, save lives, protect essential Canadian industries and infrastructure, and ensure the livelihood of small communities who rely on the flow of food and essential goods
Artillery exercises involve deploying the Guns to engage targets up to 11.3 km away. Gunners must deploy quickly and withdraw quickly and deploy to new firing positions. Gunnery is a very fast paced occupation that involves heavy lifting, and a very strong team-work oriented mentality.
