Vancouver, Canada Chess Institute of Canada Full time

**About the Chess Institute of Canada**

The Chess Institute of Canada (CIC) teaches life skills through the magic of chess. We welcome players of all ages, genders, ethnic and national origins, and skill levels to our warm and inclusive programs. Our expert instructors create a safe and welcoming space, so everyone can learn and grow without feeling intimidated or uncomfortable.

Traditionally based in the Greater Toronto Area, CIC has expanded to include a modest presence with several schools in the Vancouver area. We seek to grow and improve our presence on the West Coast, bringing chess and life skills education to students in Vancouver and the surrounding region.

**Job Summary**

Reporting to the Manager, Outreach & Partnerships, the Outreach & Administration Lead provides support to current clients while continuously seeking growth opportunities and partnerships for CIC.

The Outreach & Administration Lead’s primary responsibility is maintaining and growing relationships that manifest CIC’s vision of chess as a vehicle to teach life skills to children and others. While profitability of programs and growth of the organization is required for this organization to thrive, ensuring chess and its benefits are available to all is the ultimate goal of this role: partnerships should be found in areas where chess can be taught to benefit populations who may not be able to pay CIC’s market rates.

Successful applicants will be passionate about chess and its benefits; personable, approachable, and well-organized, capable of working highly independently while maintaining strong relationships with CIC staff, community organizations, clients, and the general public.

This role is being created on a pilot basis, and will be evaluated at three, six, and twelve-month milestones to ensure that our growth in the region justifies the continuance of this role. While this role is being established at 10 hours a week, it may expand over time to reflect success in the Vancouver area, and potentially to reflect a greater outreach role in the whole of British Columbia and western Canada.

This position will be remote, but require frequent travel within the Greater Vancouver Area.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- New prospect and market outreach: Establishing new partnerships with any organizations or groups (principally elementary schools in the Greater Vancouver Area) or in new B.C. markets established as priorities for development, as directed by the Manager, Outreach & Partnerships, under guidance from the Executive Director.
- Contract management: drafting and managing standardized contracts with partners, consulting with the Executive Director and others as warranted when non-standard contracts or new contract types are required.
- Client stewardship: Maintaining relationships with current CIC partners, addressing questions and concerns, conducting periodic “check-ins” to ensure CIC is delivering its services to clients’ satisfaction, gathering client feedback for continuous improvement of CIC products and services and advancing ideas for positive change to CIC leadership and staff
- Existing contract growth: Seek opportunities to add more or different services among current CIC clients and partners
- Site and client visits: in the interest of all of the above, periodic visits to sites and clients to evaluate new prospective locations and partnerships
- Instructor administration: ensure instructors are appropriately assigned to running programs, and that any gaps are addressed to ensure that programs run smoothly; arranging for substitute teachers when needed, fostering a culture among instructors to self-solve scheduling issues with this role’s oversight
- Liaise with Toronto office: maintain a standing meeting with the Manager, Outreach and Partnerships; attend other team and planning meetings remotely as required.
- Other duties as required in support of CIC goals and success

**REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Bachelor of Arts or higher in business, history, economics or other related disciplines
- Minimum of three years’ relevant experience in outreach, sales, or related environments
- Ability to work with a software office suite (Microsoft, Google Workspace, LibreOffice)
- Experience with WordPress or a similar web CMS
- Experience CRM software such as HubSpot or Salesforce
- Demonstrated knowledge of chess, childhood education, and non-profit work
- Experience writing and editing in a variety of formats, including print and social media.
- Satisfactory Criminal Records Check and Vulnerable Sector Screening required.
- Consideration may be given to an equivalent combination or education and experience.

**SKILLS**:

- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills - verbal, visual and written.
- Writing, editing and proofreading skills, with a keen eye for accuracy
- Ability to create and update budgets for program maintenance and launches, projecting spending and revenue to anticipate a bottom line f
