**Base Superintendent**

Full-time, Salaried Position

We are currently seeking an experienced and safety-conscious **Base Superintendent** to join our team in **Edmonton, Alberta**. Reporting to the **General Superintendent, Base**, this position will

manage the base crew operations and ensure that projects are completed on time, within budget, and meet customer specifications. The Base Superintendent is a key contributor to our success, maintaining the high standards O’Hanlon Paving is known for in the industry.

**Key Responsibilities**:
**Leadership & Team Development**:

- Organize and coordinate the daily activities of all base crew members, subcontractors, and equipment, utilizing corrective actions to ensure the project stays on time and within budget.
- Provide leadership for 3-5 foremen and up to 40 crew members.
- Work with respective foremen to plan work in an efficient and effective order, coordinating with plant and logistics teams to optimize daily production in a safe and timely manner.
- Liaise with the Human Resources department on a variety of employee-related issues,

including employee development, recruitment, benefits, training, terminations, and investigations.
- Ensure paperwork, including employee timesheets and job site logs, is completed accurately and submitted on time.

**Operational Management**:

- Review and adhere to construction schedules, ensuring that milestones and projectcompletion dates are met.
- Read and interpret project plans and specifications to guide the execution of tasks and ensure adherence to requirements
- Coordinate with subcontractors, suppliers, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth project execution.
- Perform hands-on work when required, including operating equipment such as graders, skid steers, and rollers.
- Act as a backup for the General Superintendent when necessary, managing daily operational tasks and decision-making.

**Collaboration & Communication**:

- Liaise with customers, engineers, and project managers to ensure project expectations are met.
- Provide daily updates to the General Superintendent on project progress and operational matters.
- Foster collaboration with internal teams and external stakeholders to maintain smooth operations.

**Cost Management**:

- Monitor project budgets, ensuring that costs are controlled and projects remain within financial targets.
- Assist in job cost analysis and provide insights to improve efficiency in base operations.
- Support procurement efforts by coordinating with suppliers and managing material deliveries.

**Safety**:

- Ensure base crews conduct daily and weekly safety meetings and inspections, promoting adherence to safety policies and procedures.
- Collaborate with the Safety department to ensure compliance with OH&S regulations and company safety standards.
- Lead by example in complying with all Health and Safety-related policies and processes.
- Promote and enforce safe work practices, ensuring that all team members adhere to the established safety guidelines.

**Qualifications & Skills**:

- Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent education.
- 5+ years of experience leading base crews as a Senior Base Foreman or Superintendent in a municipal road construction setting.
- Experience operating Graders, Skid Steers, and Rollers is required.
- Thorough knowledge of municipal road building specifications and procedures, particularly related to the grading process.
- Proficient in MS Office and experience with construction management software.
- Strong leadership skills, with experience managing large teams and coordinating complex operations.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license with a clean driver’s abstract.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Willingness to work extended hours and weekends as required.
