**SUMMARY OF DUTIES**

Reporting to the Superintendent, Horticulture, the Horticulture Programming Supervisor will contribute to a dynamic team of Horticulture professionals and be responsible for overseeing Floral Shows and Tropical Greenhouse programs, ensuring the development, administration and evaluation of comprehensive strategies for all populations.

Responsible for managing the delivery of efficient and effective operations and maintenance for the Forestry and Horticulture Section by ensuring a healthy, productive and safe environment while promoting horticultural best practices.

**GENERAL DUTIES**

Supervise staff and provide appropriate support to the given areas of responsibility through the delivery of effective management of horticultural operations.

Informs section priorities, changes to policies or procedures, or need for equipment or programming revisions based on updates to best practices, programming trends, or regulations.

Supervises special programming initiatives, including Tropical Greenhouse programming, Floral Show programming and coordination, grant programs, partnership agreements, city youth initiatives or other city social programs. Responsible for creating new programs to generate revenue, scheduling programs, monitoring and reporting on revenues/expenses, monitoring cost control and reporting on data, liaising with Business Services and providing effective cost control of the allocated current budget.

Leads the planning and coordination of Floral Shows, including thematic concept design creation and finalizing using Dynascape 3D, leading staff through idea generation and visioning, and developing displays and features, including the specification and sourcing of materials and quantities.

Maintains and builds relationships with the community groups and organizations, to prepare program/partnership agreements, facilitate access to Tropical Greenhouse; plan joint events and programs.

Communicates need for program growth, revenue generation or new service delivery; prepare grant submissions or requests for funding as required to fill service gaps.

Coordinates with the other Horticultural Supervisors and is a contributing member to the Supervisor team. Supports programs and projects and inform priorities through researching and reporting on best practices, municipal benchmarking, community programming, and completing cost/benefit analyses. Defines quality indicators for targeted programs and analyzes against implementation and customer satisfaction. Completes reports, charts, comparisons, or presentations as required.

Manages maintenance, budgets, and work order tracking related to Horticulture programs and projects including procurement of materials, equipment and services required to support staffing and meet delivery objectives as appropriate. Ensures projects are completed within the required maintenance schedule and budget.

Determines and co-ordinates the daily work programs by planning, organizing and scheduling work activities and equipment for employees, students, hired equipment and contractors.

Identifies and rationalize a list of specific projects relevant to the area of responsibility through proper investigation, cost estimating and the setting of priorities.

Inspects and monitors Greenhouse facilities' heating and ventilation systems, security alarm systems and cold temperature alarms.

Troubleshoots and responds to emergency greenhouse malfunctions, such as boiler problems, cold temperature alarms and irrigation malfunctions.
