The Judith & Norman Alix Art Gallery is owned and operated by the County of Lambton and located in the centre of Sarnia’s downtown cultural district. A block from the waterfront, the Judith & Norman Alix Art Gallery offers a wide range of exhibitions, tours, lectures and programs. The gallery’s permanent collection comprises over 1,200 Canadian historical and contemporary works. Revolving exhibitions from the gallery’s permanent collection along with temporary exhibitions by contemporary artists and works from other galleries open a window on the past and help preserve and present our visual culture heritage locally and nationally. Position Overview
The Arts Programming Assistant will work with professional staff and artists to deliver art education programs offered at the JNAAG. They will also gain behind-the-scenes experience in the day-to-day operations of a public art gallery, as well as experience organizing and facilitating fine art programs. The incumbent will also document activities and programs through photography for use in corresponding social media posts.
**Responsibilities**:
1. Assist education staff with studio inventory, art supply sourcing, preparation, organization, and maintenance of supplies and equipment for art programs.
2. Help staff with summer art classes including the preparation and setting up of classes, resetting the art studio. Assist and guide program participants with art projects one on one.
**3. Professionally document events for JNAAG's photo archive**: high-resolution images that abide by photo consent regulations.
4. Draft social media posts to accompany photo documentation for the gallery's social media pages.
**Qualifications**:
**Note**: Non-Canadian students or graduates holding temporary work visas or awaiting permanent status are not eligible.
- be legally entitled to work in Canada.
- be between 16 and 30 years of age at the start of employment.
- have finished the school term at the start of employment.
- meet the specific eligibility criteria of the program to which you apply.
- be willing to commit to the full duration of the work assignment.
- not have another full-time job (over 30 hours a week) while employed with YCW.
- have been a full-time student (as defined by his or her educational institution) in the semester preceding the YCW job.
- intend to return to full-time studies in the semester following the YCW job.
