UNIT/PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The DeGroote’s Student Experience team supports all students at the DeGroote School of Business - MBA, BCom, specialized graduate programs and PhD students. As an integrated team, we champion new ideas, collaborate across boundaries, and learn continually to deliver a consistent and inspiring student experience. As part of Student Experience, the Career and Professional Development team delivers innovative excellence in three key areas: Career Development, Strategic Employer Partnerships and Experiential Learning, supporting more than 2300 Commerce and over 500 MBA students each year and up to 100 Master of Finance students. There are team members at both the Burlington and Hamilton locations of the business school.

The Manager, Employer Development - MBA Programs works to source and secure co-op, summer and full-time job opportunities for all MBA students within the DeGroote School of Business. He/she also works directly with these students to market them to employers and to provide them with resources to assist them in their co-op, summer and full-time job searches.

The incumbent will engage in external relations and act as an ambassador and representative for the DeGroote School of Business. They will work collaboratively with DeGroote and McMaster colleagues to support the strategic priorities and goals of the faculty and university.

JOB SUMMARY:
Identifies and initiates new strategic employer relationships to present a breadth of work integrated learning opportunities for McMaster students. Responsible for the research, planning, development, documentation and evaluation of a career centre’s recruitment and employment programs.

PURPOSE AND KEY FUNCTIONS:

- Develop strategic employer development plans ensuring employment objectives and target demographics are clearly defined.
- Conduct interviews and focus groups with students, professionals, and employers to study the effectiveness of employment programs and initiatives.
- Coordinate and schedule promotional events such as program information sessions and career fairs.
- Develop and coordinate customer relationship management strategies.
- Review and assess all experiential learning programs to make program modifications to streamline activities.
- Determine timelines, resource implications, and fee structures for program design and redesign and develop budget proposals to sustain program delivery.
- Develop and deliver presentations at conferences and workshops.
- Develop business plans and detailed proposals for new experiential learning programs.
- Write a variety of documents such as correspondence, reports, and proposals.
- Liaise with all stakeholders involved in employment initiatives to ensure that deadlines and objectives are met.
- Consult with other staff to develop and implement comprehensive program plans that align with the department plan.
- Research, identify, implement and evaluate social media initiatives that augment existing recruitment programs for students.
- Provide advice on the market potential of new programs and strategies to promote engagement.
- Mediate between students and supervisors in difficult situations, establishing neutral ground during work terms.
- Serve on various University committees relating to employment and community engagement.
- Gather, compile and analyze information required to develop recommendations on matters such as program changes and compliance with government legislation and policies and ensure that program guidelines align with University regulations and are updated to reflect the competitive landscape and changing employment market conditions.
- Attend and support key employer events and activities to demonstrate commitment to employer partnerships and foster new relationships for future employment.
- Design and deliver innovative workshops and activities to enhance students’ employability skills.
- Create, update and maintain a database of employer contacts to support a variety of activities such as querying past activities, corresponding with and tracking leads and new partners.
- Remain current with Canadian and international government legislation, ethical standards, and policy documents which relate to employment, experiential learning, work integrated learning and privacy.

SUPERVISION:
Ongoing responsibility for supervising up to 9 casual employees at any one time.

ASSETS:

- Excellent understanding of labour laws and best practices in experiêncial learning policy and procedures.
