- PEA - Regular- # of Hires Needed- 1- Category- Other- About this OpportunityThe Division of Student Affairs (STUA) is made up of four departments with 26 reporting units that work together to help create an environment where our students are actively engaged in their academic pursuits and the co-curricular life of the university. From Food Services to Academic Advising, each of the units of Student Affairs exists to help UVic students succeed. This new position works across the STUA portfolio and is housed within Student Development and Success (SDAS), which focuses on the development and implementation of strategic student support models, co-curricular engagement programming, and serving as a key resource for both the Division of Student Affairs and campus leaders as it relates to student retention and satisfaction planning and initiatives. SDAS also focuses on the establishment of a new professional development program available to all staff across the Division.

International Centre for Students (ICS) develops, delivers, and manages programs and services to support international undergraduate and graduate students at the university to navigate their UVic experience, whether they are newly admitted, first-year or current undergraduates; graduate students; incoming or outgoing exchange students; or visiting students.

**The salary range for this position is**:
**Recruitment range: $70,137- $77,330** starting salary determined by the PEA Collective Agreement.

**Performance range: starting salary to max of $91,214** is available through annual performance increases.
- Job Summary**Mandate**:
An Immigration Consultant plays a critical role in providing expert immigration advice and consultation to the University of Victoria community, including providing support with work permits and permanent resident status.

**Objectives**:

- Uphold sound immigration practice by maintaining a Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant (RCIC) license in good standing with the College of Immigration and Citizenship Consultants (CICC)
- Support student’s understanding of their responsibilities, as well as the responsibilities of the International Centre for Students and the University
- Collaborate with on and off campus stakeholders including IRCC, Student Affairs, Co-op and Career Services, Faculties and academic units on issues related to immigration to deliver services to international students and provide consultation on policies and processes at the university

As a result of the nature of the duties and responsibilities of this position, occasional evening and weekend work may be required.
- Job RequirementsThis position requires a level of education, training, and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree in a related discipline and a minimum of five (5) years of related experience. In addition, this role requires membership good standing of the College of Immigration and Citizenship Consultants (CICC) as a Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant (RCIC).An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.

- Understanding of International student concerns related to study, work, immigration and well-being and the post-secondary student lifecycle and service needs from ‘new student to alumni’.
- Understanding of effective practices in international student advising and experience providing immigration consultation services.
- Extensive knowledge of Canadian immigration regulations, policies and procedures as they relate to the international student experience.
- Ability to collaborate successfully with individuals from diverse backgrounds and at all levels of the university and community.
- Knowledge and understanding of crisis response and intervention management approaches.
- Superior communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Excellent analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships.
- Experience writing briefing notes and reports for various audiences.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills and intercultural fluency to ensure a culturally sensitive approach.
- Ability to navigate difficult discussions and demonstrate judgment, sensitivity, and discretion in dealing with confidential and sensitive matters.
