At The Portal Youth Outreach Association, we provide a variety of programs that serve youth experiencing homelessness or exploitation. Some of the programs are: Supportive Living Homes, Supported Apartments, and Youth Outreach Program. We are a vibrant team of professionals who work collaboratively within a network of community and government partners to achieve our vision; that _the Annapolis Valley would be a place where all youth have a safe, supportive, and loving home._

Through our services, we journey with and support youth to become interdependent and secure in the community, while providing for their basic needs of housing, nourishment, accompaniment, and safety. We encourage youth to experience themselves within their communities, as well as be involved in a variety of activities to learn about themselves.

**HOUSE STAFF**

**House Staff **work closely with the Wellness Team Lead and other care team members in the Supportive Living Program to support clients and facilitate and deliver program content.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Engage with youth through active participation in recreational, outdoor, art, music, and other creative means to pursue goals in emotional, physical, mental and spiritual health.
- Appropriate role modeling and advocating for youth for any necessary supports and services.
- Providing opportunities for recreational and leisure activities to provide youth the opportunity to enhance relationships and make connections in the community.
- Attending and actively participating in community outings, appointments, and meetings.
- Being part of a team that provides a caring and safe environment for youth who may require assistance with self regulation, conflict resolution and developing skills needed for healthy relationships.
- Support plans with youth to further their goals for education/employment assistance; relationships; life skills; identity; youth engagement and emotional healing.
- Efficiently document case management including current focus of work, progress, and supportive work with Youth (CMS- Salesforce).
- Collaborate with team including the Life Skills Coordinator, Youth Worker Plus and/or Social Workers.
- Learn about (and document) each client's unique access to services and help them to utilize them effectively.

**REQUIREMENTS**
- Must have a clear Criminal Records Check and Child Abuse Registry Check.
- Commitment to maintaining strict confidentiality in all aspects of work.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license and reliable access to a vehicle.

**QUALIFICATIONS**
- Undergraduate degree or diploma in social sciences (Community Development, Psychology, Human Services, Social Work/social services, etc.) or equivalent education and experience.
- Certification or training in ASIST, Trauma-Informed Care, Non-violent Crisis Intervention, and First Aid (some training will be provided by The Portal).
- A grasp on their own personal story and experience, having worked through their own trauma, addictions, or emotional challenges as it related to the work with vulnerable youth.
- Knowledge and understanding of youth, family, community, social and historical factors, discrimination, trauma, and its impact on youth development.
- Knowledge, understanding and experience in working with culturally and socially diverse youth.
- Demonstration of experience in working from a strengths-based and relationship-based perspective.
- Knowledge of youth/family/community resources, programs and services, and policies within the community and within Nova Scotia.
- Ability to organize and manage the case load and data collection needed.
