**Summary of Position**

Responsible to ensure that the municipal water & wastewater systems are operated and maintained in compliance with legislation though inspection, maintenance, and repair of facilities and maintain records of all related activities.

**Responsibilities**
- Undertakes all duties and responsibilities as in accordance with the MOECC criteria while acting as the Overall Responsible Operator (ORO) and/or Operator-in-Charge (OIC), upon meeting the required licence levels of the system.
- Ensures all measures necessary are taken to manage, operate and maintain the Water and Wastewater System.
- Maintains water main distribution system valves through regular inspection and maintenance.
- Maintains fire hydrants, including tracking information on each hydrant, to ensure replacement or regular maintenance requirements are completed.
- Inspects water distribution mains and services for required preventative maintenance and necessary repairs.
- Inspects sanitary manholes and sewers for required preventative maintenance and necessary repairs.
- Inspects newly installed water mains and services, ensuring contractors meet compliance with Town and County design criteria, AWWA Standards and MOECC regulations including proper pressure testing, disinfection and connections to the existing distribution system.
- Oversees work being carried out by contractors working on the water distribution, wastewater collection and storm sewer systems when assigned, and report any discrepancies to the Overall Responsible Operator (ORO) and/or Operator-in-Charge (OIC).
- Leads and participates in the installation, replacement, and repair of sewer laterals and the repair of water mains and services.
- Monitors work order software-based assignments, routine and preventative maintenance work orders and ensures timely completion.
- Locates water mains, water services, sanitary, and storm sewers and other utility lines using magnetic and/or energized locators, probes and by hand digging in compliance with Ontario’s Underground Infrastructure Notification Systems Act and Town policies. Provides information to Town Engineering Department on mapping errors and changes.
- Responds and investigates complaints (e.g., water quality, sewer back-ups, basement flooding) as assigned and provides operational support to other departments providing water related expertise (e.g., storm sewer complaints)
- Participates in the reconnection of meter services, takes meter readings and installs water meters and Electronic Radio Transmitters (ERT’s) on consumer premises.
- Takes water distribution samples in accordance with MOECC standards and transports samples to accredited labs.
- Provides information, research, and support for the creation and amendments to municipal by-laws and Town policies and procedures.
- Safely operate vehicles, machinery, and other powered equipment in accordance with operating procedure and ensures all equipment is kept in good working order.
- Maintain equipment logs and records of work performed in accordance with operational and legislative requirements.
- Provides courteous and helpful customer service to members of the Public.
- Liaises with the public, user groups, stakeholders, and contractors as required.
- Recommends cost saving measures relating to daily operations and general operational improvements.
- Responsible to organize work in stressful situations in emergencies which include organizing contractors, locators, suppliers and others to minimize service interruptions to customers and meet all legislative requirements.
- Maintain professional certification in accordance with requirements.
- Ensures operating procedures and workplace safety regulations are followed to comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- Required to participate in a regular on-call/stand-by rotation and respond to emergency calls as needed.
- Reports all accidents/incidents, problems or concerns to the Supervisor.
- Adheres to all policies and procedures for the Town.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

**Qualifications**
- Completion of a two (2) year post-secondary education in environmental science, or a related discipline.
- One (1) to three (3) years’ experience working in a municipal water/wastewater distribution and collection system.
- MOECC Class I water distribution system licence.
- MOECC Class I wastewater collection system licence.
