**HOURS OF WORK**: 35 hours/week, 8 Weeks
**HOURLY RATE**:$15.50

**_The Canada Summer Jobs Program provides funding to help employers create summer job opportunities for students. It is designed to focus on local priorities, while helping both students and their communities._**

John Howard Society of York Region is a non-profit, charitable organization serving residents of York Region. The organization works with individuals involved in any stage of criminal justice involvement and their families.

The PAR Program is a psycho-educational program provided to individuals 18+ who have been referred due to their involvement with intimate partner violence. The program has two primary goals: to enhance safety and to increase accountability.

Adult services include the following programs: Mindset, Reintegration Program, Mental Health & Addictions Peer Support (MAPS) Program, and Direct Accountability Program

The primary function of this position is to provide administrative support to register and introduce individuals to these programs.
- Complete Intake Assessments virtually, over the phone and in-person
- Provide referrals to clients who require support within the agency and outside agencies
- Schedule programs start dates for one-on-one and group-based programs
- Provide administrative and technical support during online groups
- Provide administrative support in follow up with clients actively in programs
- Complete statistical data collection and client intake statistics
- Answer general telephone inquiries and direct calls appropriately
- Assist agency in program enhancement through identification of service gaps.
- Always maintain and respect professional boundaries with clients and coworkers
- Ensure client confidentiality
- Adhere to directives and program standards of John Howard Society of York Region
- Engage in continuous learning as directed by the Program Coordinators
- Complete all required trainings
- Attend staff and team meetings
- Accommodate day and evening hours
- Assist program staff with various duties as required

**Qualifications**:

- **Must be between the ages of 15-30 years old**:

- Education in a Human Services/Criminal Justice related field or equivalent combination of experience and education is considered an asset
- Ability to speak another language is an asset
- Possess an understanding of institutional and other systemic barriers and how they impact individuals and access to services
- Professional demeanour with strong rapport and relationship building skills
- Ability to actively listen and provide an empathetic approach to client interaction
- Knowledge of community resources throughout York Region with the ability to seek out new community resources as needed
- Knowledge in suicide risk assessment, crisis intervention skills and safety planning; and ability to manage conflict, crises, and escalating situations calmly and confidently
- Knowledge of harm reduction methodology an asset
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs and online meeting platforms
- Ability to work with diverse populations and communities with an awareness of socioeconomic and language barriers
- Ability to work in priority driven environment with fast paced resolutions required
- Flexible schedule to accommodate for evening and daytime sessions as
- Access to a vehicle is preferred
