Reporting to the Program Coordinator and Special Needs Coordinator, provide support with integration of children with special needs into the City of Oshawa camp programs.

All training hours are paid at minimum wage as outlined in the Employment Standards Act.

**Responsibilities**
- Provided 1:1 or 1:2 support to participants who benefit from additional support to be successful in a camp environment
- To suggest/implement program and environmental adaptations to create an inclusive environment
- Maintain communication with caregivers as appropriate
- Promote appropriate behaviour using learned strategies and acquired skills
- Physically assist with lifts, transfers, toileting, feeding and other needs as required
- Ensure the safety, enjoyment and care of registered participants in City of Oshawa camp programs
- Respond to first aid situations
- Be familiar with City of Oshawa policies and procedures and emergency procedures and be able to implement such procedures (fire, power failure, building evacuation)
- Report all incidents, accidents, issues and concerns to the Program Coordinator
- Complete all formal paperwork (accident, incident, complaint forms, weekly attendance)
- Answer questions and inquiries, while providing effective customer service to registrants/patrons of the program
- Other duties as assigned

**Requirements**:
Applicants employed in previous seasons must reapply. Previous applicants or incumbents are not guaranteed an interview or employment from year to year. Consideration for employment will be determined by both operational needs and a successful performance appraisal from your previous supervisor.
- Be able to commit to the full term of employment beginning June 2024 through August 30, 2024 (June hours primarily occur on evenings and weekend to accommodate other commitments)
- Completed education or currently enrolled in a related field is an asset (ie. Educational Assistant, Nursing, Recreation and Leisure Studies, Teacher, Therapeutic Recreation etc.) and related experience
- Experience working with children with intellectual disabilities including autism and other needs
- Attend mandatory training's
- Possess and keep current Standard First Aid & CPR ‘C’ qualifications
- Provide a current (within six months) Criminal Information Request prior to employment start date
- Demonstrate good customer service and communication skills to deal effectively and courteously with staff and the general public; good interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships
- Previous volunteer and/or previous experience in a camp or similar setting is an asset
- Attend all staff meetings and training's, including evenings and weekends
- Strong swimmer
- Strong skater is an asset
- The City of Oshawa is situated on lands and waters within the Williams Treaties Territory, home to seven First Nation communities of the Michi Saagiig and Chippewa Anishinaabeg, who have cared for and maintained these lands from time immemorial and continue to do so to present day. _
