Reporting to the Director, Pension Risk Management, the Manager, Pension Risk Management is responsible for the development and deployment of robust investment risk analytics and reporting for the Canada Post Registered Pension Plan (Pension Plan). The Manager leads the research of risk measurement methodologies for both public and private market investments and performs transaction risk reviews in support of investment decisioning. They ensure that information is captured accurately and effectively so that analytics, reports, and visuals are derived from high quality data. The Manager identifies new subtleties and areas of enhancement for the risk toolkit, building out the appropriate solutions and tools, for the constantly evolving investment and risk landscape.

**Responsibilities**:
1. Oversees the preparation and design of quality risk analytics and reporting including daily and monthly risk monitoring reports for the Pension Investment Team, the Investment Committee, and the Pension Advisory Council. Provides insights and research to contextualize risk analytics, flag differences, and incorporate risk into investment decisions.

2. Monitors the fund’s daily derivative and counterparty credit exposures to assess liquidity requirements, complete stress testing, and assist with anticipatory cash management.

3. Leads research and validation of risk measurement methodologies and risk modelling of illiquid assets. Collects data, identifies subtleties, and completes documentation and text analysis. Socializes risk analytics through presenting risk and potential impacts and providing advice to other managers.

4. Prepares ad-hoc research and transaction risk reviews, primarily on new private market investments, in support of investment decisioning.

5. Works with both internal and external stakeholders including Pension Investment, Custodians, Finance, and Operations teams to ensure that the highest quality dataset is implemented into third-party systems. Verifies reconciliation daily and ensures that risk analytics are derived from the proper data set, and development and implementation follow established protocols.

6. Makes use of best-practice statistical techniques to help identify opportunities to mitigate risk across the Pension Plan’s public and private portfolios, funds, and assets. Completes hypothesis testing to build out an objective view of opportunities and threats. Addresses flaws in risk metrics through augmentation with other analytics.

7. Builds visualization of Power BI Risk Reporting Dashboard. Leverages Python skills to extract data from external stakeholders, manipulate data and overlays, and push to Power BI.

8. Keeps abreast of market conditions and conducts investment research. Remains current with respect to opportunities, ideas, trends, and developments pertaining to pension investments.

9. Contributes to a positive work environment and culture, by providing clear objectives and performance expectations for direct reports. Ensures the continuous development of employees and provides employees with the support necessary to deliver against the expectations of their roles.

**Qualifications**:
**Education**
- Completed University degree preferably in Mathematics, Statistics, Finance, or other related analytical or quantitative field, is required.
- Completed Masters’ degree is an asset.
- Designation as a CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst), FRM (Financial Risk Manager), or PRM (Professional Risk Manager) is an asset.

**Experience**
- 3-5 years of relevant functional experience in a pension investment environment or other financial institution, identifying, monitoring, and reporting on various markets’ risks for public and private market investments.
- 2 or more years’ experience in a supervisory role.
- Working knowledge of 3rd party systems like BarraOne/RiskMetrics, Bloomberg, Capital IQ, or equivalent.
- Proficiency with Python, Matlab, and SQL-based data manipulation tools is required.
- Advanced expertise with MS Excel and Power BI.
- In-depth understanding of portfolio and investment risk principles, capital markets, and both public and private investments.
- Experience with financial modelling and valuation of private assets is an asset.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and work ethic.
- Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to build and maintain relationships.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Capable of working independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Demonstrated track record of professional success.
