The Ministry of Municipal Affairs assists municipalities in providing well-managed, collaborative, and accountable local government to Albertans. Our main responsibilities are:
- Funding supports for municipalities.
- A system that strives to ensure appropriate safety standards for the construction and maintenance of buildings and equipment.
- Protections for new home buyers and required licensing for home builders.
- Province-wide support for access to public library services for Albertans.
- Management of about 2.6 million acres of public land in the province's three Special Areas.
- Independent review and decisions on local matters by the Land and Property Rights Tribunal.

As a member of the Community and Technical Support branch, the Fire Technical Advisor will work with the Provincial Fire Administrator (PFA) and a team of other technical advisors to ensure that consistent, appropriate and high-quality information is provided in response to requests for technical information related to and with respect to building, fire, energy standards and systems. The Fire Technical Advisor is part of a team that is focused on the development and implementation of safety codes in Alberta.
**Responsibilities**:
The main responsibilities of this position are (but not limited to):
- Assist in the development of provincial codes and standards for fire safety and fire safety in buildings.
- Assist the PFA and Safety Coded Council Fire Sub-Council in reviewing and analyzing fire protection standards and systems.
- Assist in the implementation and coordination of the review of codes and standards involving fire protection systems, fire safety plans, interpretation of codes and standards and advice on compliance of specific projects.
- Assist the PFA and senior management in representing the department's policy and initiatives for fire protection systems and, in accordance with the department's direction, assist the Fire Sub-Council on projects, issues and initiatives.
- Supports the projects of Community and Technical Support across all systems regulated under the Safety Codes Act.
- Assist the PFA and senior management in coordinating stakeholder groups to support desired outcomes for public safety.
- This position may provide support to the Office of the Fire Commissioner on an ad hoc basis, but this position falls under the Community and Technical Support branch of Municipal Affairs.

**Qualifications**:
**Required**: Completion of a recognized fire training program (Fire Safety Codes Officer, Level B2 Inspector), and six years of experience in fire protection and prevention is required.
**Equivalency**: Directly related education or experience considered on the bases of:
- 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
- 1 year of experience for 1 year of education
**Assets**:
- Experience leading in the administration and delivery of the Safety Codes Programs, Act and Regulations would be an asset.
- Investigator C2 or NFPA 1033 certification is preferred.
- A related education in any one or more of the following:
- Relevant experience in fire protection/prevention or building inspections/discipline; or
- Engineering Technician/Technologist certification; or
- Engineering.
