Administrative Full-time New Position

The Manager is responsible for strategic environmental sustainability and energy management initiatives of the Facilities Management department, including the implementation and adoption of greenhouse gas reduction initiatives and sustainable energy practices in accordance and collaboration with Conestoga’s overall environmental and sustainability directives and strategies. With full oversight of the environmental sustainability and energy management portfolios, responsibilities include: strategy and business case development, financial management, project planning and implementation, and energy and sustainability assessment and reporting.

**Responsibilities**:
**Leadership & Oversight of Facilities Greenhouse Gas Emission Reductions and Energy Efficiency**
- Oversee Conestoga’s Environmental Sustainability & Energy Efficiency team
- Lead a collaborative and diverse team of professionals, student workers, and contracted role
- Ensure a high level of performance by personnel through effective recruitment, selection, training, motivation, and evaluation
- Develop and lead the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Roadmap and Action Plan (GRRAP) and Conservation & Demand Management Plan (CDM), working to align, inform, and inspire students, staff, and partners to help fulfill Conestoga’s Strategic Plan objectives in campus environmental sustainability
- Participate in and support the implementation of an institutional Sustainability Plan
- Develop long-term roadmaps to outline how Conestoga will achieve its long-term energy and operational greenhouse gas emissions objectives, and lead initiatives through college planning processes (create business plans and budgets, etc.) from development to full integration
- Oversee the development of internal and external sustainability, greenhouse gas emissions, and energy benchmarking, reporting, and communications
- Track effectiveness and success of the GRRAP and CDM and report results to the Sustainability Steering Committee, Senior Leadership, other campus committees, etc.
- Profile institutional environmental sustainability, greenhouse gas emission reductions, and energy efficiency accomplishments internally, locally, provincially, nationally, and internationally

**Operational Sustainability & Energy Optimization, Monitoring & Reporting**
- Review and approve utility bills for accuracy and liaise with utility companies
- Monitor and analyze changes to Ontario’s deregulated electricity and natural gas markets
- Optimize utility rates by leveraging procurement strategies, rate structures, and rebate programs
- Oversee the collection of energy and water data from all sources, including energy bills and sub-metering; Develop and maintain a strategy for large quantities of meter data
- Assist in forecasting energy consumption and costs for the preparation of annual budgets and longer-term strategic planning purposes
- Prepare and submit annual energy reports required under the Ontario Green Energy Act and Scope 1 & 2 for annual Greenhouse Gas Emissions
- Oversee waste management programs, including recycling, composting, and specialized program waste streams
- Identify opportunities for sustainable transportation options and encourage alternative modes of commuting
- Collaborate with various departments to implement environmentally sustainable practices and identify new opportunities in energy efficiency, including waste management, water conservation, transportation, and procurement, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions

**Education & Culture of Sustainability**
- Promote initiatives and successes to external communities to position Conestoga as a leader in greenhouse gas emission reduction and energy efficiency
- Update the leadership team on GRRAP and CDM progress annually, including cumulative financial and greenhouse gas emission savings to justify Conestoga’s substantial investment
- Create a culture of sustainability in Conestoga by engaging in cross-department and stakeholder collaboration and initiating the development of College policies, procedures, and guidelines
- Produce annual reports, information packages and/or action plans on greenhouse gas emission reductions and energy efficiency at Conestoga, suitable for widespread distribution

**Qualifications**:

- Bachelor’s Degree in Sustainability, Sustainable Development, Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, Social Sciences, or related field of study
