Mississauga, Canada Sheridan College Full time

Under the direction of Manager, Library User Services, the Library Technician works together with Library staff and student workers to support students as they learn at Sheridan and create a sense of belonging, connection, and engagement. The incumbent does this through performing a variety of library tasks such as all circulation functions, using automated library systems. The incumbent will assist library users in the operation of the public library catalogue, and printers. The position provides virtual and physical quick reference, research support, citation support, and library use guidance, and participates in keeping the collection in order through shelf reading and shelving as required. Issues which are unresolved are referred to the full-time staff in the appropriate area.

What You’ll be Doing

Following established library procedures/guidelines performs circulation functions by charging and discharging materials, and collecting fines using Alma;
Retrieving and shelving library materials and shelf-reading collection when required;
Providing virtual and in person reference service and guidance to library users by interpreting their needs through a reference interview;
Demonstrating the use of the Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) and library indexes to locate relevant information;
Recommending appropriate electronic database(s) and guiding users in basic search strategy skills to achieve optimal results;
Performing library opening or closing procedures by turning on/off photocopiers, ensuring they are functional and filling paper trays, noting down the readings from the Security System, unlocking or locking the doors and other areas to be secured, etc.;
Working in collaboration with the Manager, Library User Services to monitor and provide support to Sheridan Library Student Clerks during evening shifts;
Promoting awareness of library services and programs to library visitors;
Provides support for events in Library spaces under the direction of Manager, Library User Services;
Maintain usage statistics on all services provided.

Library technical services project work may be assigned;
Performing other related duties as assigned.

About You

You have excellent oral and written communication skills.

You use your interpersonal skills to build working relationships and provide excellent customer service.

You enjoy balancing many different tasks, staying organized and like to develop processes or systems to keep things running smoothly.

2-year Library Technician diploma along with a minimum of 1-year of relevant work experience.

Knowledge and understanding of automated library information systems such as SIRSI or ALMA, and discovery layer such as Summon or PrimoVE is required.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and well-developed on-line search skills are required.

Experience with Business resources is an asset for this position.

Ability to work independently within established library guidelines/policies and as part of a team.

**Hourly Rate**: $18.26 + 4% in lieu of benefits and vacation

**Hours/Week**: 18.5

**Hours**: Tuesdays: 1:00 pm - 8:30 pm at Davis

**Wednesdays**: 1:00 pm - 8:30 pm at Davis

**Thursdays**: 4:00 pm - 8:30pm at HMC
