**Job Summary**
- The Dalhousie Bookstore is the primary provider of supplies in support of the academic programs and events for the university community with three physical locations, found in our Student Union Building, and on the Sexton and Agricultural Campuses. Reporting to the Course Materials Manager, the Course Materials Purchaser will be responsible for the acquisition of a wide range of required and recommended course materials, including physical and digital textbooks, for multiple Faculties across the university.

**Key Responsibilities**
- Research and purchase course materials including new and used, physical and digital textbooks, medical instruments and supplies, field tools, and agricultural supplies, ensuring the best pricing and options. Regularly review inventory levels and research and address discrepancies.
- Educate faculty and students regarding print and digital options, digital platforms, and costs and deadlines. Troubleshoot student and faculty issues with digital delivery and access. Act as a resource for pricing, availability and options while providing excellent customer service.
- Negotiate regarding a wide range of issues including pricing, discounts, terms of sale, non-returnable course materials, digital access periods, extended returns privileges, and the addition of content to digital platforms. Persuade vendors and publishers to use specific digital platforms.
- Investigate new digital initiatives and materials and make recommendations to the Learning Management System team, platform providers and faculty.
- Liaise with publishers and vendors. Ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of course materials. Coordinate events and liaise with publishers regarding promotions. Establish accounts with new publishers.
- Map out shelving plans, shelve materials to facilitate sell through, provide on-floor customer assistance. Supervise and coordinate activities of casual and temporary staff at busy times of year.

**Note**
- This position requires regular physical activity including lifting up to 50 lbs., moving carts, boxes, shelving materials, unpacking and packing boxes, unpacking skids, moving between campus locations, as well as extended periods of standing during peak periods throughout the year.
Due to operational requirements, the successful applicant is required to work in-person on campus.

**Required Qualifications**
- Undergraduate degree in business or other related field plus approximately five years relevant experience (or equivalent combination of training and experience).
- Experience in purchasing university level course materials and with computerized ordering and inventory control systems.
- Excellent computer skills with the proven ability to learn new platforms and programs quickly. Demonstrated knowledge of features and programs used by students such as learning management systems and digital delivery platforms.
- Demonstrated ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Strong communication (verbal and written), interpersonal and customer service skills with a wide range of individuals.
- Excellent analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail and proven ability to work independently.

**Assets**
- Training or certification in supply chain management and/or procurement.
- Familiarity with medical terminology and professions as well as the recurring annual publications and test preps for health sciences.
- Comprehension of agricultural campus specialty studies, e.g. animal studies, pre-vet, soil and crop courses.
