**ASSISTANT CONTROLLER**

Reporting to the Controller, the Assistant Controller will aid with the preparation of working papers and entries to close out reporting periods, along with filing of monthly, quarterly, and annual government and external remittances. The Assistant Controller will regularly collaborate with Management and Executive personnel to ensure financial and operational reports are prepared and distributed. This position will be in Winnipeg, MB.

**CORE RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES**:

- Prepare working papers and assist with the filing of monthly, quarterly, and annual government or external remittances.
- Oversee the daily treasury tasks and ensure cash is reconciled daily and final monthly reconciliations are completed in a timely manner.
- Ensure joint venture and partnership accounts are reconciled and variances are being addressed prior to the completion of each period end close.
- Complete ad-hoc cheque payments and electronic payments as requested.
- Complete month-end, quarter-end and year-end duties as assigned by the Controller and CFO.
- Assist with the preparation of working papers and entries required to close out reporting periods.
- Collect working papers and backup requested for audits.
- Lead the annual budgeting process and work with the Managers in the organization to ensure budgets are inputted into the ERP system.
- Provide ongoing feedback and reporting to Managers about their budgets and help identify variances.
- Assist in the preparation and distribution of financial and operational reports required by Management and Executives.
- Provide support to the finance team and assist with problem solving and investigating escalated issues.
- Investigate and recommend improvements for accounting functions and processes.
- Assist with the monitoring and creating internal financial controls for the organization.
- Other duties as assigned.

**EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS**:

- Minimum 3+ years of accounting experience is required.
- Experience working in the construction industry will be considered an asset.
- Completion of post-secondary education in accounting or a related field.
- CPA designation or working towards the designation will be considered an asset.
- Experience with SAP/Concur will be considered an asset.
- Experience with Viewpoint Spectrum software or a similar ERP system will be an asset.
- Experience F, P, & A or reporting writing software will be considered an asset.
- Advanced MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) is required.
- Critical thinking and effective decision-making skills are required.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to work with changing priorities, work under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
- Strong communication skills both verbal and written as well as electronically.
- Strong accuracy and attention to detail.
- Must be able to manage priorities, perform a variety of tasks and meet targets.
- Ability to travel to site if required.
