**About the MNjcc**:
The Miles Nadal Jewish Community Centre is a dynamic hub in downtown Toronto. It provides opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds to be active, learn, connect and participate in a wide range of cultural experiences. Rooted in Jewish values, the MNjcc is open to all.
Founded on this site in 1953, the MNjcc is home to a state-of-the-art Fitness Centre, the Al Green Theatre, four schools, four choirs, a wide range of arts and cultural activities, Jewish Life programming, and a robust Active 55+ program. It is a founding member of the Bloor Street Cultural Corridor.
**Short Description of the Position**:
As an employee of the Miles Nadal JCC, the Athletics Instructor will be reporting to the Manager of Recreational Programming. The instructor will be responsible for preparing lessons, instructing participants, ensuring classes run smoothly and on schedule, supervising and ensuring the safety of all participants under their care, and setting up, checking, taking down, sanitizing and adequately storing any equipment used. The instructor is also responsible for ensuring classes start and end on time, answering questions or offering feedback to parents or guardians and ensuring that all participants leave promptly with a parent or guardian unless otherwise instructed.
**Schedule**:
- 1 or more weekly classes, as discussed ahead of the session.
- Athletics Instructors will be given either regular class schedules or brought in on an “as-needed” basis as substitute instructors.
- As the class offerings may change from session to session, instructors are never guaranteed the continuance of their particular scheduled shift/class.
- Instructors are expected to arrive a minimum of five minutes before their class starts to set up and to be available for 10 minutes after each class to tidy the space, sanitize and put away equipment and respond to participant questions (if any).
- If an instructor cannot teach a previously scheduled class, they are responsible for finding their own substitute instructor. In cases where no substitute can be found, instructors should contact the Manager of Recreational Programming for assistance with as much advance notice as possible.
- Classes may be cancelled due to inclement weather or other emergencies (blackout, lockdown, etc.). Should a class be cancelled for last-minute unforeseen circumstances, Instructors will be notified at least three hours in advance of the class start time or will be paid as if they had taught that class.
- Classes may continue over public/statutory holiday days and long weekends, though schedules may be adjusted by the Manager of Recreational Programming on those days. Instructors are paid their normal rate for instruction if they teach on a public/statutory holiday/long weekend.
- Instructors may be required to attend professional development or departmental meetings and will be paid at their meeting rate if they do so. Instructors are welcome to attend MNjcc All-Staff meetings; however, as those meetings are optional, attendance will not be paid unless required.
**Key Duties and Responsibilities**:
- Plan, organize and deliver high-quality group volleyball classes for participants of all fitness levels
- Educates class participants on correct form and modifications during class
- Attentively listen to members, answer questions, and engage in conversation before and after classes
- Creating a fun and welcoming environment for all members.
- Promote Miles Nadal JCC, programs and services as required
- Develop positive relationships with class participants by creating a welcoming, judgement-free environment, that is inclusive and can be adapted to all levels of fitness
- Maintain complete vigilance while on duty and is ready to respond to any emergency
- Complete administrative duties promptly (e.g., attendance, incident/accident reports) as needed.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and tidy program space, ensuring equipment is set up and stored appropriately
- Report all concerns, accidents and incidents to the immediate supervisor and take appropriate action as needed
- Maintain an understanding of department programs and services
- Understand, adhere to, and enforce Policies & Procedures, Confidentiality Guidelines, Emergency Procedures and Health and Safety Standards for all participants and staff.
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Doing monthly equipment checks and notifying the Manager of Recreational Programming of equipment needs.
- Representing the Miles Nadal JCC positively and professionally at all times.
**Expectations**:
- Class Attendance: Instructors are expected to assist the MNjcc in tracking the attendance of their classes.
