Currently enrolled in a post-secondary educational institution on a full-time basis and returning to school upon completion of the co-op work term(s).

This position will require the successful incumbent to provide proof of co-op eligibility, a transcript and tax credit form(s) from their school’s co-op department.
Job Summary
We are seeking a co-op student to complete an 8-month term from May 2024 - December 2024 within the Road Operations & Maintenance to provide support in operation and maintenance of Regional road assets and continues to remain in a state of good repair.
Duties & Responsibilities

Provide support to Road Operations and Maintenance staff relating to work and assets within the Regional road right-of-way including roads, traffic control devices, storm infrastructure, roadside drainage, safety devices, etc.

Perform field investigations at specified locations along the Regional road network, including inventories and assessments of infrastructure and observation of various deficiencies.

Provide periodic inspection of various maintenance works, including: storm sewer systems, annual pavement marking program, crack sealing program, sweeping program, guiderail repairs, tree planting and maintenance, asphalt spot repairs, permits and acoustic barrier repairs.

Assist in the delivery of Regional asset management programs for various road capital assets, including acoustic barriers, guiderails, retaining walls, oil/grit separators, trees, roadside cross-section, storm infrastructure and bridges and culverts.

Perform inspections and condition assessments of the Tourist-Oriented Directional Signing (TODS) and Emergency Detour Route (EDR) program.

Provide input to various traffic operational and safety initiatives to improve safety and efficiency of new and existing Regional Roads.

Participate in multi-disciplinary teams that undertake both internal and external projects.

Skills & Qualifications
Essential

Currently enrolled in a recognized post-secondary institution in a Civil Engineering program.
Analytical, organizational, and project management skills, along with critical problem-solving, customer service, and effective time management skills.
Strong practical knowledge in Civil Engineering principles.
General understanding of road maintenance and asset management practices.
Software skills in Microsoft Office.

Preferred

Knowledge of OPS Standards, Ontario Traffic Manual Book 7 (OTM).
A commitment to quality and compliance.

Working/ Employment Conditions

**Working Conditions**:
Travel will be required between locations within Halton Region; incumbent must supply their own transportation at times when not driving a Regional fleet vehicle.

**Employment Conditions**:
The incumbent may be required to drive a Regional vehicle and will be required to provide a copy of their 'G' driver’s license and a driver’s abstract, by their first day of employment.
