**Casual Relief, Residential Caseworker - Ellen House**

**Casual Relief - On call Rotating Shift Schedule - Including Days, Evening and Overnights**

The Casual Relief, Residential Caseworker assists in managing the day-to-day operations of the Ellen House Residence, a female adult half-way house designed to accommodate 18 years of age and older, and emergency shelter bed program for single women ages 25 years and older. Women are accepted from both the Provincial and Federal correctional systems where individualized plans of care are developed to assist the women in addressing such concerns as substance abuse, anger management, physical/ sexual abuse, employment challenges, educational upgrading and life skills. Women are accepted into the emergency shelter bed program through referral or direct contact with our shelter program, where staff assist women with employment and housing supports. The position is a casual relief, based on a rotating shift schedule which includes days, afternoons, and overnights.

Areas of Responsibility:

- Provides direct service, resource referrals, crisis intervention, conflict resolution, and advocacy with emphasis placed on developing appropriate resources and connections to community support and services in order to facilitate successful reintegration
- Responsible for providing guidance regarding problem-solving while encouraging the development and enhancement of skills and techniques required for successful reintegration
- Maintains all security and safety systems with the Residence
- Participates in the shift schedule rotation as part of our 24 hour staffing model
- Maintains accurate and up-to-date records and statistics regarding all aspects of service delivery
- Familiar with each resident’s individual plan of care in order to identify needs, recommend changes and provide assistance that is consistent with the overall plan for each individual
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Manager or designate
- 1-3 years’ experience in a residential setting and/or educational background in a relevant field (prior experience with adult females is considered an asset)
- Knowledge of Ministry of the Solicitor General (MSG) and Correctional Service Canada (CSC) policies and procedures is considered an asset
- Practical knowledge of gender specific/responsive programming; assessment/counselling skills are essential
- Excellent problem solving and leadership skills, with the ability to judiciously handle crisis situations with clients within the residential facility and/or community
- Strong communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills with the ability to work well with diverse community groups and other stakeholders in order to provide inter-agency and intra-agency networking and liaising ensuring the effective and efficient delivery of programs
- Awareness of and commitment to women’s issues
- Experience working with communities who face multiple barriers such as poverty, discrimination, criminalization and lack of housing
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Valid First Aid / CPR certification
- A clear Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC), cannot be older than 6 months
- Proof of full COVID-19 Vaccination
