Thunder Bay, Canada The Waterfront District BIA Full time

Our Ambassadors will be performing four main functions. The primary function is tourism and hospitality assistance. These individuals will be interacting with the public and providing directions around the rejuvenation construction in the area (underground infrastructure replacement) and drawing people to the Waterfront District BIA businesses. The second function, tying directly with tourism and hospitality, is assisting with marketing, specifically - social media. The third function is general maintenance and cleanliness of the area (an ongoing task of picking up garbage and disposing of it in the proper receptacles) as we continue to work to bring recycling initiatives into the area. Lastly, the Ambassadors will assist in planning and executing interactive events for children during the summer months, with a number of these events relating to the ongoing construction.

The BIA Ambassadors will work as teams of two, or three and will walk the BIA (downtown area) every day. During these walkabouts, wearing Waterfront District BIA branded clothing, the Ambassadors will engage with the people who live, work and are visiting the area; they will be educating, engaging, and connecting people to services/ resources and tourist attractions in the area. These teams will also be creating fun and interactive activities on the sidewalks to engage people throughout the day. On rainy days the Ambassadors will be able to base themselves in the BIA office or the Historical Thunder Bay Pagoda and assist with the tourist endeavours of Tourism Thunder Bay.

The Ambassador teams will welcome residents and Tourists to Thunder Bay and promote Local Thunder Bay Activities and businesses. These actions are critical for enhancing and strengthening business and social agency relationships and positive community impacts. The Ambassadors program has been established to correlate with the significant development and revitalization of our downtown north core. Ambassador teams are one way to build community well-being and enhance the public relations of our city and BIA. The Ambassadors are an extra set of eyes on the street, connecting residents, businesses and visitors to the information, support, and services they need. All these contribute to making our business district more approachable and safer for everyone and keep the BIA Board informed on concerns within the area.

The Ambassadors will also play a key role in supporting local and regional tourism development by helping cruise ship passengers, with no knowledge of the area, find their way around during construction and regular use of the area. Additionally, they will assist 170+ small businesses by planning activities and opportunities for people from all various demographics during the lengthy construction. They will also support projects that support persons with disabilities (downtown renewal construction project).

As a part of the safety and beautification initiatives within the BIA, the teams will assist with keeping the area clean of litter, maintaining planters, tree guards and bike racks, removing posters, notifying the City of Thunder Bay of any graffiti requiring removal and assisting with clean-up before and after events. They Ambassadors will also be trained on basic street outreach and obtain sharps training. They will carry Narcan kits (having been trained on use and feeling comfortable) and have access to sharps containers if needed. However, they are instructed to call 911, their supervisor or Superior Points if they feel any discomfort with the situation.

**Requirements**:
1. between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment;
2. a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or a person whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act*; and

3. is legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.

Part time: 30 hours/week
