**About Us**:
As Canada’s only provincial museum dedicated to the story of work and workers, the Museum of Industry offers the largest galleries of exhibits in Atlantic Canada. As we tell the stories of how Nova Scotia changed as a result of industrial work, we specialize in hands-on fun for families. In our exhibits, you can find everything from one of the oldest steam locomotives in the world, to a climb-on colorful Kid’s train. Visitor experiences also include special exhibits, programs, events and school trips.

**About Our Opportunity**:
Over a 16-week work term the Heritage Assistant will assist the Curator of Education and Public Programs in providing high quality programs and wider access to heritage resources for visitors from within and outside of Nova Scotia. The Heritage Assistant will work as part of an interpretation team to lead educational programs, and provide public tours, programs and demonstrations in the Museum’s galleries. You will support the Reception desk, welcoming visitors and processing admissions and gift shop sales. You will also perform general gallery maintenance and cleaning functions, provide security for artifacts, and perform other duties as required in support of Museum operations.

**Qualifications and Experience**:
To succeed in this position, you must be outgoing and interested in working with the public. You have strong interpersonal skills, specifically the ability to develop positive interactions with visitors and provide visitor service to a high standard. You have demonstrated communication and organizational skills, including the ability to remember and communicate a large volume of detailed historical information.

We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.

**Working Conditions**:
Physical requirements include standing, walking, crouching and moving around for extended periods of time, exposure to dust, and the use of common cleaning fluids.

**Additional Information**:

- Must be returning to school in the Fall of 2024.
- Fluency in English is a requirement.
- Filling this position is contingent on receipt of funding from the Young Canada Works program.

**Pay Grade**:_ _HOURLY

**Salary Range**:_ _$18.00 Hourly
