The Technical Specialist, Civil/Geographic Information Systems (GIS), provides civil technology and/or GIS support to internal clients and the Client-Partners. In collaboration with a technical team of specialists and stakeholders, the incumbent will support the development and implementation of civil data management systems, including the design and management of spatial databases, tools, processes and perform data migration. The Technical Specialist will provide general support to the collection and standardization of real property, site plan and civil utilities data and will provide technical advice related to civil and spatial data.

**KEY AND PERIODIC ACTIVITIES**

The duties and responsibilities listed below are representative but not all-inclusive:
**Primary**
- Provide technical advice regarding civil data management (e.g. standards, processes, software, tools)
- Support the development and management of data management systems and tools
- Perform and report on quality assurance and quality control processes, ensuring deliverables meet corporate and Client-Partner expectations and standards
- Perform rationalization of real property data from multiple sources and formats
- Provide general spatial data support in response to Client-Partner requests and other ad hoc support (e.g. special projects, database entry and administrative support)
- Develop and maintain effective relationships within DCC, and with industry, the Client-Partners and/or stakeholders

**SKILLS**

**General and Specific Knowledge**
- Familiarity with best practices, methods, trends and developments in GIS and civil infrastructure/data management
- Experience using civil/GIS software, technology and tools (e.g. ESRI ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Pro and/or AutoDesk Civil 3D)
- Proficiency with relational spatial database design and management is essential
- Knowledge of scripting or programming languages (e.g FME, scripting and web development, etc.) (asset)
- Project and risk management principles

**Formal Education and/or Certification(s) and Experience**
- **Minimum**: college diploma in geomatics, civil/engineering technology or a related field with approximately two years’ relevant experience, or the equivalent

**Abilities**
- Use applicable computer software and operating systems

**DEVELOPMENT AND LEADERSHIP**
- Provide functional advice and guidance to other employees and the Client-Partners

**WORKING CONDITIONS**
- Typical office environment with occasional travel
- Some work may be conducted on construction sites; incumbent may occasionally be required to wear basic safety equipment
