The Wetaskiwin School Division is seeking dedicated and compassionate individuals to join our team as a temporary full-time ( 2 positions available) or temporary part time 0.5 FTE Family School Liaison Workers (FSLW) at Wetaskiwin Composite High School. The focus of the Family School Liaison Worker is to ensure vulnerable students receive skill development and support in order to manage emotions, thoughts and impulses that inhibit success at school. Students and their families receive counseling supports and crisis intervention services when identified, including referrals to outside agencies. FSLWs assess and enact suicide intervention plans. They support completion of violent threat and risk assessments. The incumbent will act as an advocate for students and their families when required and will be active within the school and community to increase education, awareness and to develop support networks.

These positions are 10 month positions.

There is a strong possibility that these positions will become continuing.
- Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma/Certificate in Social Sciences with eligibility to register as a Social Worker
- Minimum 3 year's successful experience working with at risk children, youth and families
- Firm understanding of child welfare authority systems and processes, knowledge and understanding of cultural diversity, family dynamics, and an understanding and respect for First Nations culture
- Strong ability to quickly develop rapport with children, youth and families
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team
- Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to make an high level of sound and independent judgment/decisions, reasoning and discretion under difficult and stressful situations
- Ability to deal with people sensitively, tactfully and professionally at all times
- Highly flexible, with solid interpersonal, prioritization and organizational skills that allows one to work effectively in diverse working environments and effectively accommodate unexpected urgencies
- Demonstrated commitment to advocating for children/family needs
- Commitment to the Health and Safety Program and training as prescribed by the Board
