**Business & Community Relations Department**

Reporting to the Senior Cultural Planner, the Arts, Culture and Events Liaison will work collaboratively with the team to deliver key action items outlined in the Create Victoria Arts and Culture Master Plan and provide support to the local arts and culture sectors. This includes but is not limited to public art policy and program development and management, grant funding and cultural spaces for artists.

**POSITION FUNCTION**

Provide support to the arts, culture and event industries. Plan, develop and implement a variety of projects and initiatives to support the City’s cultural and artistic vitality.

**KEY DUTIES**

Develop and implement strategic plans and initiatives related to arts and culture including the support for public art, festivals, events, film, music and the creative industries; produce reports and updates on status and results; assist in the development and implementation of an arts and culture master plan, including the public engagement component; perform complex project management duties related to program areas; offer technical expertise relating to public art, events and the creative industries.

Lead and contribute to interdisciplinary teams to enhance collaboration and communication among strategic partners. Coordinate and manage cultural projects and programs with internal stakeholders and with government and community partners; develop and evaluate long-term strategies; monitor effectiveness of cultural programs and initiatives.

Research and prepare communication materials targeted at internal and external audiences; prepare presentations on various initiatives. Provide communication support and respond to public inquiries; including preparation of media releases and supporting materials to raise awareness of the City’s arts and cultural programs and services

Represent the Department and promote the City of Victoria and its initiatives with stakeholder and community groups; develop and coordinate event planning and management.

Draft reports, briefings and updates for Management and City Council. Assist in developing and refining cultural plans, policy, guidelines and evaluation methods.

Perform related duties where qualified.

**INDEPENDENCE**

Work is generated by annual objectives, departmental work plans, requests from Council,

operational demands, emerging issues or is assigned by supervisor.

Work is reviewed through meetings with supervisor.

Issues such as major expenditures or deviations from policy are referred to supervisor.

**KEY SKILLS AND ABILITIES**

Organize and prioritize work.

Provide technical guidance and advice to other departments.

Working level operation of City word processing, spreadsheet and communications specialty

software.

Establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Deal effectively with the public and outside agencies.

**QUALIFICATIONS**

**Formal Education, Training and Occupational Certification**:
Degree in public administration, arts administration, fine art or humanities.

**Experience**:
3 years related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

**OTHER**:
May be requested to substitute in a more senior position

**Work schedule: Monday to Friday, (35 hour work week)**

**$48.05 per hour, Pay Grade 14**
