**Summary**:
Occupational Health and Safety Consultant is responsible for promoting safety awareness, identifying risks, and providing input into the development and updating of Occupational Health and Safety policies, prevention programs and emergency response programs. This position ensures work environments comply with all safety regulations and that employee safety is promoted throughout all daily activities while consistently supporting the belief that a healthy and safe workplace results in quality and safe patient care.
- Occupational Health and Safety Consultant supports effective investigation of accidents and injuries to identify their causes and to determine how they might be prevented in the future.
- Analyzes injury and safety data, reports on key OHS indicators, and makes recommendations to prevent future occurrences.
- Designs and implements workplace processes and procedures that help protect workers from potentially hazardous work conditions.
- Participates in the long-term accommodation process by creating/maintaining PDA’s (Physical Demands Analyses) and completing job fit analyses against worker restrictions.
- Develops/updates occupational health and safety policies and emergency procedures.
- Organizes/runs various emergency drills/tabletops and other preparedness activities.
- Develops and delivers training programs and provides advice to clients on OHS issues.
- Serves as the certified management member on the Joint Health and Safety Committees and assists them in fulfilling their role as legislated by the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- Serves as liaison between the hospital and government agencies (Ministry of Labour, Fire Marshall, etc.)
- Monitors Occupational Health and Safety developments across the health care sector; identifies good practices and statutory changes, and analyzes and reports on impacts, opportunities, and risks.
- Evaluates and monitors health and safety hazards and develops strategies to control risks.
- Completion of a university degree in occupational health and safety, ergonomics, science or related discipline from an accredited institution.
- CRSP, CRST, CCPE, or AE certification would be an asset.
- Knowledge of the Ontario OHS laws, statues and best practices and demonstrated skills in leading and facilitating teamwork, process improvement, conflict resolution and group decision-making. Minimum of 5 years of experience in an occupational health and safety position in a healthcare environment is preferred**APPLICATIONS WILL BE RECEIVED UNTIL THE POSTING IS CLOSED.**
