**Your Opportunity**:
Operating 24/7, the DSC Pre/Post Analytics department in the Southern Alberta Hub Lab plays a key role in the delivery of customer-focused laboratory services & is vital to the operation of the laboratory. As a team member in this fast-paced and physically demanding environment, you will utilize skills in specimen distribution & processing, communication, customer service, data entry and teamwork to meet operational requirements. Functions, responsibilities and requirements of this position include: Abide by the APL Values, Kindness, Inclusion, Innovation, Agility and Accuracy. High endurance for standing and the ability for to frequently push/pull a rolling cart weighing up to 200 lbs. Repetitive lifting of specimen transport containers weighing up to 40 lbs. Loading/unloading of dumbwaiters with specimen transport containers weighing up to 40 lbs. Accurate transcription of patient demographics and tests into the LIS. Labelling specimens and requisitions. Receiving, processing and sorting patient specimens and requisitions. Maintaining laboratory equipment. Preparing specimens for transfer/referral. Answering telephone inquiries and transferring. Provide high quality service to clients APL in an effective, efficient, and safe manner. Ability to listen, comprehend and respond to or relay information, directions, or questions in person, over the phone, or in writing in an accurate and concise manner. Other clerical duties as required. Assisting with the training of staff and students. Receptive, adaptable, and flexible within an environment of change and interruptions. Other Information: As workload demands and operational requirements shift, the location, dates and/or hours of work may be changed.

**Description**:
As a Medical Laboratory Assistant I, you will provide high quality service to clients of the clinical laboratory in an effective, efficient and safe manner. You will be responsible for a variety of laboratory functions including procurement, handling, processing, dispatching and testing of specimens, performing procedures and reporting results.

**Required Qualifications**:
Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent.

**Additional Required Qualifications**:
Capable of standing/walking for prolonged periods of time with manual dexterity. Ability to frequently push/pull a rolling cart weighing up to 200 lbs. and lift specimen transport containers weighing up to 40 lbs. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills while promoting a team environment. Keyboarding skills. Basic computer knowledge with proficiency in data entry into Epic-Beaker. Demonstrated attention to detail and ability to assume responsibility. Good organizational skills and effective time management with the ability to set priorities.

**Preferred Qualifications**:
Experience working in Specimen Receiving (PrePost Analytics). Ability to give/receive feedback, lead self through change, interpret workflow visuals and respond appropriately to meet KPIs. Courses in leadership, process improvement or change management. Initiative, analytical thinking and problem-solving skills. CSMLS certification. WHMIS 2015 certification. Intermediate competency in Microsoft Office. Broad Availability, able to work days, evenings and weekends.
