**Job Summary**
The Utility Operator, Team Lead is responsible for supporting and assisting with the operation and maintenance of the McLoughlin Point Wastewater Treatment Plant (MPWWTP). The Team Lead assists with overseeing daily operations and maintenance routines and provides guidance and direction to operational crews. The Team Lead also collaborates with the maintenance team on the maintenance of the MPWWTP.

**Typical Duties and Responsibilities**
People working in this role can expect to be responsible for performing the following duties. This list is not meant to be comprehensive and other related duties similar in scope and complexity may be performed.
- Performs all work in safe manner compliant with CRD Safety Policies, Practices and Procedures.
- Coordinates and assists in the operation, maintenance, servicing and repairs of all components of the MPWWTP.
- Coordinates and assists to prioritize work including the distribution of work orders and the administration of maintenance management data.
- Performs maintenance, repair and operation of the MPWWTP.
- Provides guidance and direction to staff including coordinating, documenting, and monitoring activities.
- Assists in the implementation of policies and procedures, including safety procedures and protocols.
- Assists with drafting and reviewing Standard Operating Procedures, as required.
- Participates in conducting basic physical, chemical and microbial analysis of treatment processes and recommending adjustments as needed to meet or exceed regulatory requirements under the facility operating permit.
- Participates and assists in organizing and delivering training courses.
- Liaises with internal and external stakeholders, as required.
- Maintains operational records, maintains inventory of equipment and orders supplies, as required.
- Provides advice and recommendations regarding specifications for new equipment and upgrades.
- Produces operational information and reports, as directed.
- May be required to act as standby operator.
- Assist with the response to emergencies, as directed.
- Follows all policies, procedures and standards of the CRD.
- Performs other related duties as required.

**Qualifications**
- Two (2) years’ post secondary education related to Wastewater and/or Water Technology (or equivalent combination of education and experience) including the following BC Environmental Operation Program (EOCP) certifications:

- EOCP Level III Wastewater Treatment Certification
- Seven (7) years related experience including 2 years’ of supervisory related experience.
- Must possess a valid BC Driver’s Licence (Class 5).
- Excellent communications (verbal and written), interpersonal, and customer service skills are required.
- Thorough knowledge of the standard practices, methods, materials, tools and equipment used in the operation, maintenance, inspection, servicing and repair of wastewater treatment facilities and systems.
- Must have demonstrated team lead, supervisory, and conflict resolution skills to promote and encourage a positive team environment. Ability to coach, lead and mentor others.
- Good working knowledge in the operation of a personal computer and a variety of software programs including Computer Maintenance Management Systems (e.g. SAP), SCADA and MS Office software such as Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Sound working knowledge of wastewater treatment plant processes, wastewater collection system and pumping stations, regulations and standards.
- Knowledge of blue print reading, pipe laying and the operation and care of tools and equipment used in wastewater treatment facilities.
- Knowledge and understanding of WorkSafeBC practices/protocols, Workers’ Compensation Act, OH&S Regulations and other relevant safety regulations.
- Knowledge of the occupational hazards involved in the work and required safety methods and precautions.
- Ability to work under pressure during emergency situations while maintaining a high level of professionalism.
- Ability to work independently and able to make decision of a complex nature.
- Demonstrated analytical and problem solving ability.
- Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated sound judgement and integrity.
- Sufficient physical strength and stamina to perform the required duties.
- Ability to work outside in all types of weather conditions.
