**Reports to ** Directly: Principal and/or Indigenous Education Coordinator
Indirectly: Superintendent of Education Services
**Pay Level** Pay Level 07
**Employment Term **10 Months (194 days)

In a Catholic environment that fosters collegiality and supports continuous learning, the Indigenous Student Advisor will work towards equitable outcomes for improved Indigenous student achievement in the areas of engagement, transitioning and increased graduation rates. This position is intended to target First Nations, Métis and Inuit student graduation rates, credit recovery and students that take more than 3 years to complete grade 9-12.
**Required Duties and Responsibilities**:
Without restricting the generality of the above-stated basic function, the Indigenous Student Advisor shall perform such duties and responsibilities as may be assigned including but not restricted to the following:
**Catholic Distinctiveness** Ensure Catholicism is evident in her/his work both within and outside of the division
- Be knowledgeable and supportive of Regina Catholic Schools’ policies and expectations
- Permeate our Catholic faith in his/her area
- Foster Christ-like behavior
- Treat all stakeholders as valued people of God. Is fair and understanding, developing relationships to help move people forward
- When applicable attend and participate in faith building activities
- Conduct oneself in a Christian manner appropriate to an educational institution
- Complete a yearly Catholic Formation goal in the Committed to Professional Growth document
**Primary Duties **Planning and Preparation
- Work in collaboration with administration and school personnel to actualize system
Attendance Policy and Practices
- Develop a calendar of events of planned excursions and field trips to be shared with
school administration and school personnel for student “excused absences” throughout
the year
- Offer career counselling for Indigenous students that focus on course credits obtained
and required
- Initiate or develop as needed a high school student mentorship program for grades 9-12
- Assist with the school learning improvement team and/or school success team as needed
in the development of a student success plan
- Liaise with surrounding elementary school administrators and student support teams to
assist with elementary to high school transitioning with a focus on early identification of students
Instructional and Assessment Leadership
- Collect First Nations, Métis and Inuit student data at assigned schools
- Log and document individual student consultations
- Track current academic, graduation and dropout rates
- Work with High School counselors to collect data that involves Indigenous students in
regards to referrals and response to interventions
- Work with school administration and school personnel to advocate for individual students
to stay in class and stay in school
- Access high school credit recovery programs to support students who are at risk for not
completing course requirements i.e. tutorial, on-line courses
- Work in conjunction with school administration team to develop S.M.A.R.T goals
- Mediate and support as needed to advocate on behalf of Indigenous parents and families
and if needed provide immediate crisis intervention
- Provide opportunities for community role models to speak to Indigenous students
- Attend and coordinate opportunities for Indigenous students to attend local Indigenous student’s career fairs and clubs for successful transitioning (i.e. Discovering Directions
Conference, Stepping Stones Career Fair, Pre-Health Professions Club, Sports for Life and
University of Regina Aboriginal Youth Leadership Camp)
- Increase awareness of Indigenous student scholarships and bursaries

**Continued ** Collaborate with the Indigenous school student support team for various programming and strategies that supports Indigenous student success
- Build on-going relationships and liaison with students, families and Indigenous communities
- Assist with the school’s Indigenous student leadership teams
- Deliver presentations to staff/students that support development of their understanding of Indigenous Worldview
- Support school Truth and Reconciliation Team planning and events
- Develop partnerships with outside agencies to reduce barriers and enhance new learning opportunities
