**JOB RESPONSIBILITIES**

St. Leonard’s Community Services offers a continuum of social housing services to meet client needs ranging from homelessness to independent living. As part of the continuum, Cornerstone House supports formerly homeless clients in preparing for semi
- and independent living by providing emergency, short
- and long-term accommodation.

Cornerstone House offers two separate programs within its physical space which includes a shelter program and a Transitional Housing program, both for males and females between 18-29 years of age. Cornerstone House works with individuals who are precariously housed or at risk of homelessness and provides them with a safe place to stay, help and support with counselling and life skills coaching to support the transition towards independent living.

As a Support Counsellor at Cornerstone House, you will:

- Assist with established Treatment/Support Plans
- Help clients develop the skills and resources they need to enhance their social functioning
- Distribute and document resident funds and recreational funds; collect record and provide receipts for client savings
- Tour the facilities to ensure the residences, clients and grounds are safe and secure
- Provide information to clients regarding resources
- Make decisions and problem solve as the Shift In Charge when the Supervisor is not available
- Intervene and manage client behaviours by using Crisis Intervention Training techniques provided by the Agency

Hours of work: 8 week rotation of days and afternoons, with some weekends.

Training: Initial comprehensive training related to all aspects of the role, as well as access to ongoing professional development

**COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS**

Hourly wage: starting at $21.30 plus shift premiums and group health, dental, accidental death & serious illness, and travel insurance benefits

**REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS**
- College diploma in the Human/Social Services field
- Have a minimum of 1-year combined student placement and/or paid experience working with youth with substance use, mental health and/or homelessness issues
- Be proficient in MS Office and be familiar with databases
- Have access to reliable transportation
- Be able to manage frequent exposure to direct and vicarious traumatic stress
