Reporting to the Guthrie Therapeutic Community (GTC) Program Manager, The Outreach Worker will play a vital role in reaching out to individuals in need of addiction and recovery support within the community. They will actively engage in pre-release planning, community support, and outreach efforts.
- Participate in appropriate group activities and support sessions, providing valuable insights and support to individuals seeking help for addiction.
- Actively engage in pre-release planning to ensure a smooth transition for individuals returning to the community from treatment facilities.
- Conduct community support and outreach, seeking out individuals in need of addiction and recovery support.
- Provide information, resources, and referrals to individuals seeking assistance with addiction and recovery services.
- Collaborate with community organizations, treatment providers, and support groups to enhance the availability and accessibility of addiction recovery services.
- Conduct outreach activities, such as organizing and participating in community events, workshops, and presentations to raise awareness about addiction and recovery resources.
- Build relationships with community members, stakeholders, and service providers to foster collaboration and support for individuals in recovery.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation of outreach activities, including contact information, referrals, and outcomes.
- Stay informed about current trends, best practices, and evidence-based approaches in addiction and recovery support.
- Maintain all case notes and updates as per JHSVic and BC Corrections requirements.
- Responsible for Program Analytics as per John Howard Society and BC Corrections requirements.
- A minimum of 2 years of "lived" experience around addiction and recovery is preferred.
- Someone with a passion for and interest in working with vulnerable populations.
- Relevant education (Criminology, Corrections, Social Work) or experience working with the reintegration of men with addictions and/or mental health issues.

- Ability to relate to individuals seeking help for addiction, based on personal experience and empathy.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Empathy, compassion, and a non-judgmental attitude.
- Knowledge of community resources and support networks for addiction recovery.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Cultural competence and the ability to work with a diverse population.
- Proficiency in using technology, including computers, software, and online platforms for communication and documentation.
- An understanding of the use of authority in supervision and the ability to intervene effectively in crises.??
- Experience with computer programs including Excel and Word

**Work Expectations**:

Hours of work will be **40 hours per week**, Mon to Fri, and can vary between 7:30 and 20:00 on any day during the week. Most tasks for this position are completed during the workweek, however occasional evening and weekend work may be required. Occasional travel to Victoria will be required.
