The Dean and the Dean's Office lead, manage, administer and support the instructional, scholarly and outreach activities of the Faculty on four campuses with this mission in mind.


Duties:

Coordination of the CMHW program, including working with VIU Admissions and Registration. In consultation with the Social Work Program Chair, the coordinator will support student learning; assist with instruction of students; participate in the hiring and support of instructors; work collaboratively with the practicum coordinator and community stakeholders to facilitate field education; work with the program assistant to manage administrative duties; contribute to departmental and faculty meetings, and participate in program activities related to curriculum and administrative planning activities.

Candidates must demonstrate commitment to teaching, learning, and student success through ongoing professional training, subject currency, and institutional service. Successful candidates will participate in a wide range of activities outside the classroom, including student support, institutional, faculty and department committees, meetings and other initiatives, and professional activities in keeping with their disciplines in and outside the institution.

Required Qualifications:

A Masters Degree from an appropriately accredited institution in an area specific to mental health and substance use (ie: Social Work, Counselling Psychology; Nursing); a minimum of five years of recent practice experience in the field of mental health and substance use; a solid understanding of the scope and role of community mental health workers; familiarity with practice settings in B.C as it relates to practice. Proficiency with the application and integration of information technology; and at least two years of teaching at a post-secondary level, specifically in online environments. Experience with project coordination and management.

Must possess a valid Class 5 BC Driver's License and have a confirmed satisfactory driving record.


Preferred Qualifications:

Familiar with Mental Health Worker practice settings in Central Vancouver Island. Completion or in process of completion of the BC Provincial Instructor Diploma, or its equivalent. Experience teaching adults in a post-secondary setting. Familiarity with learning management systems (D2L) in an educational setting.
