**Dietician, Neurosciences and Ketogenic Diet Therapy**

**What you’ll do**
- Conduct nutrition assessment of patients utilizing standards and guidelines, physical nutrition assessment, identification of relevant data and advanced clinical techniques such as extensive knowledge of nutrient and drug interactions, nutrition management with a practical knowledge of nutritional implications of various treatment modalities.
- Provide recommendations based upon assessment and treatment modality to health care team regarding nutrition support regime (oral, enteral, parenteral). Develop and implement age appropriate nutritional goals and care plans appropriate to feeding regime. Prescribes multi-parameter modified diets, including Ketogenic, enteral and parenteral nutrition support, as appropriate.
- Monitor patient for tolerance to nutrition support through methods such as reviewing metabolic parameters, nutrient intake records, growth and gut function. Adjust care plans including diet, formula, enteral and parenteral nutrition orders as required.
- Consult with the patient/family, the physician and other health care professionals as appropriate regarding the patient’s response to the nutrition care plan and ability to meet goals.
- Make recommendations to the team and/or patient for changes or adjustments as required.
- Considering factors such as quality of life, normal growth and development, and treatment modality provide comprehensive nutrition and self-care counseling to parents, caregivers and patients in the inpatient or outpatient setting.
- Document nutrition care plan and recommendations at each stage of the nutrition care process according to established format and policy, time-lines, and legal requirements.
- Chart recommendations in the patient health record including suggested diet order/nutrition support changes.
- Maintain appropriate related records including patient care data base, diet orders and menus.
- Facilitate implementation of the nutrition care plan by communicating food tolerances and diet information to designated food service staff.
- Provide input on diet writing guidelines, diet criteria, enteral formula selection, alternate lists and menu selections based on the requirements of neurosciences patients.

**What you bring**
- Graduation from a College of Dietitians of British Columbia (CDBC) approved academic program in dietetics.
- Full registration with the CDBC.
- Three (3) years recent, related clinical experience in pediatric nutrition and feeding practices/behaviours in an acute care setting or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

You also have:

- Broad knowledge of pediatric nutrition theory and practice in health and disease.
- Broad knowledge of the standards of practice and guidelines for clinical practitioners established by the College of Dietitians of B.C.
- Ability to design, implement and monitor pediatric therapeutic diets delivered via oral, enteral and parenteral routes.
- Ability to plan and implement nutrition care plans in relation to neurosciences/Ketogenic diet therapy treatment modalities.
- Broad knowledge of research process and methodology.
- Awareness of and commitment to learning and understanding the Truth & Reconciliation Commission’s 94 Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Sight Report (2020), BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019), and other related reports.
- Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC (2015) and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019).
