**Location**: YMCA Centre for Immigrant Programs

**The Opportunity**

Working with a team, the Active Living Leader develops and leads activities that promote an active, healthy lifestyle among newcomers to Canada as well as connecting them with the community at large around this topic.

**Responsibilities**
- Program planning and delivering activities
- Maintain regular communication with clients to ensure activities are relevant to client interests and needs
- Promote the program and recruiting participants
- Collaborate with Coordinator to share newcomer experiences related to active living; contribute our YMCA perspective and profile our work in this area
- Remain current on issues and information that could impact and benefit clients
- Work with local groups, partners and schools to implement active living sessions
- Establish and maintain connections with a variety of like-minded community based organizations and institutions
- Refer to other active living services as needed and collaborating with other community agencies to ensure successful settlement and integration
- Report qualitative and quantitative information on work activities

**Qualifications & Skills**
- Recreation Therapy, Health Promotion or other equivalent experience is preferred
- Knowledge and understanding of immigrant settlement and community development work
- Experience working with newcomers
- Experience and demonstrated initiative related to program planning and delivery (in-person and online)
- Demonstrated networking, rapport building and communication skills to work positively with groups & individuals
- Work collaboratively with individuals and teams in leading program
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple, competing deadlines and tasks
- Robust understanding and connection to a variety of active living organizations, community services and resources
- Ability to demonstrate positive and effective interpersonal skills
- High level of initiative is needed to work independently and respond to unanticipated item
- Schedule flexibility to accommodate variations outside of regular business hours, as needed

**Conditions of Employment**
- Clear Child Abuse Register Check
- Current and satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check (must be dated less than 6 months from hire date)
- Completion of YMCA’s Child Safety & Protection Orientation within first week of employment
- Completion of YMCA Child Safeguarding Training within probationary period
- Valid First Aid and CPR certificate if required for the role
