**About the Central Animal Facility**

Located within the Faculty of Health Sciences, the Central Animal Facility is a primary service division whose purpose is to serve the McMaster research community and ensure all animals housed at our seven sites are cared for ethically and humanely.

**New Leadership Opportunity**

The Faculty of Health Sciences is seeking a Manager, Finance and Administration to provide effective and efficient management of and oversee all financial, strategic planning, human resources, risk management and security-related aspects of the Central Animal Facility and the current 8 satellite locations, while providing support to the McMaster University research community as it relates to the use of animals in biomedical research and teaching in a large-sized, complex department. The Manager, Finance and Administration is accountable to the Director for those functions associated with developing, implementing, and maintaining those facilities. This includes fee-for-service, cost recovery, and subsidized functions. It also requires managing with faculty members, government agencies, and partner institutions with services, supplies and governance.

**Core Accountabilities**

In a collaborative team environment, which embraces the values of integrity, teamwork and inclusivity, the Manager, Finance and Administration will serve as a leader and is accountable for the following:

- **Financial -** Responsible for all financial oversight of the CAF, including developing facility business plan, budget development and implementation, managing financial resources across all 8 sites, approval of financial transactions, procurement and contract negotiation, and monthly auditing and of all accounts for projecting fiscal results and planning.
- **Strategic Planning**:

- Assists the Director to develop and implement short and long-term plans for the Unit to ensure the effective and efficient use of research infrastructure resources to support the strategic research plans for the Faculty and University.
- **Human Resources****:

- Manages the human resources activities for the Unit with respect to creating job descriptions, interviewing, hiring, performance reviews, progressive discipline measures, and scheduling of work assignments for staff. In addition, responsible for ensuring all human resources policies and collective bargaining agreement policies are adhered to.
- **Capital Planning**:

- Develops business models for capital investment strategies considering the financial resources and timelines for large equipment replacement, as well as preparing reporting, quotes and submission for equipment funding.
- **Security - **Act as lead for the overall security of the facilities, animals, staff and users including providing orientation training, risk management planning, approving security requests to facility and maintenance of security systems.
- **Technological Resources - **Responsible for identifying and recommending hardware and software upgrades for the Animal Facilities and for the efficient utilization of technological resources by personnel.
- Strong strategic planning, budgeting and cost recovery, procurement, business development, contract negotiation, and relationship management skills.
- A proven leader with demonstrated experience achieving positive results managing a team and performing a range of Human Resources functions including hiring, performance management, workforce planning, and overseeing day-to-day operational work activities.
- Superior leadership competencies, strong communication and interpersonal skills and ability to develop collaborative relationships with a diverse group of clients.

**Important Considerations**
- This position will be primarily in-person, with flexibility to work remotely approximately 1 day per week, dependent upon operational needs.
- The position will share rotational on-call duties with other management staff (approximately one weekend, in three) for emergencies, staffing and physical plant issues. Most issues can be handled remotely, with documented protocols on managing them.
