About Portage Iron:
The mission of Portage Iron is to provide high-caliber welding and fabrication solutions for a variety of manufacturing, food and agriculture industries, as well as to maintenance and repair departments and facilities.
Position Profile: CNC Operator & Drafter
This position will be based out of our Portage la Prairie head office, reporting directly to the CNC Supervisor.
Responsibilities: CNC Operator & Drafter
- Adhere to all company safety policies and procedures. Complete safety documents such as JHAs, equipment inspections, and additional documentation as required.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, charts and tables or study sample parts to determine machining operation to be performed, and plan best sequence of operations.
- Compute dimensions and tolerances and measure and lay out work pieces.
- Set up, operate and maintain a variety of machine tools including computer numerically controlled (CNC) tools to perform precision, non-repetitive machining operations such as sawing, turning, milling, boring, planing, drilling, precision grinding and other operations.
- Fit and assemble machined metal parts and subassemblies using hand and power tools.
- Verify dimensions of products for accuracy and conformance to specifications using precision measuring instruments.
- Set up and program machine tools for use by machining tool operators.
- Ensure documentation is updated as materials are completed.
- Operate forklift, telehandler, and other equipment as trained.
- Clean & organize workspace.
- Assist with projects as assigned.
- Perform other duties as deemed necessary.
Qualifications: CNC Operator & Drafter
- Able to operate various computer design programs.
- Able to read and interpret engineered drawings.
- Demonstrated ability to work with tools.
- Able to work with mínimal supervision.
- Maintain a minimum of a class 5 drivers license.
- Attain site specific pre-access testing (drug and alcohol, etc.)
Skills: CNC Operator & Drafter
- Good reading comprehension, in addition to writing.
- Able to visualize and solve problems.
- Must have, or be able to acquire, the skills required to successfully demonstrate basic PC skills and a proficiency in internet navigation.
- First-aid certification is considered an asset.
