**Job Overview**:
Responsible for ensuring high standards of quality and sanitation are met in patient food service.

**Accountabilities**:

- Responsible for food preparation as assigned by the Chef Supervisor.
- Preparation and assembly of all orders for patient service.
- Food handling in accordance with sanitation and cook-chill standards.
- Use of recipes and portion control to prevent food waste and assure high quality products.
- Work with other members of production staff as part of the “team”.
- Other responsibilities as assigned.
- Be aware of conditions and measures that may affect the safety of patients, residents, students, employees, volunteers, physicians and visitors including:

- Compliance with the safety standards of the hospital and applicable legislation
- Identification and prevention of safety issues and problems
- Taking corrective action, where possible
- Attendance at safety meetings/training/updates in accordance with the Centre’s standards
- Ability to work in a manner that exemplifies the centre’s core values and helps patients get their life back
- Evidence of good performance history and attendance record

**Key Qualifications**:

- High School (Grade 12) diploma required
- Culinary Training through a recognized course preferred
- Completion and renewal (every 5 years) of the Department of Health's Food Handler's Course or equivalent required.
- Knowledge of principles and requirements of sanitation and food safety
- Demonstrated safety in food handling practices and equipment operation
- Knowledge of cook-chill procedures
- Good communication skills
- Ability to follow written recipe instructions
- Physical stamina
- Demonstrated reliable work habits
- Institutional cooking experience related to hot food production is required
