MAP Centre for Urban Health Solutions is seeking a full-time Research Program Manager to support and advance the centre’s research, strategy and administration.

MAP is an interdisciplinary research centre within St. Michael’s Hospital (Unity Health Toronto), with a particular focus on the social determinants of health and improving the health of populations experiencing disadvantage and marginalization. MAP’s mission is to help create a healthier future for all.

MAP’s 40 scientists, investigators and affiliate scientists, and over 150 staff and research trainees work together and with community and policy partners to develop, implement, and evaluate interventions within the health care and social service systems, and at the level of public policy.

**About the MAP Research Program Manager role**

**Responsibilities and essential functions**:
The MAP Research Program Manager will work with the MAP Director and support activities of the core staff team in the following areas:
Centre Operations, Research Team Development and Support
- Monitor and evaluate organizational performance; enhance mechanisms to inform Centre decision-making and measure progress
- Provide supervision and support for the day-to-day work of MAP core staff, and oversee their annual work plans in line with the strategic priorities of the Centre
- Provide centralized expertise and processes to support research programs’ success, e.g. developing content for MAP’s internal portal, providing orientation and onboarding support for new hires
- Support continuous improvement, collaboration and learning for staff across MAP’s research programs, e.g. through training opportunities, cross-team meetings, special events for staff
- Act as a point of contact and resource for Centre activities
- Provide occasional support to scientists and staff, when needed, for research-related hospital processes and procedures (e.g. guidance related to Research Ethics, Contracts, Finance, and Human Resources).
- Assist in coordination of scientists’ annual review meetings with the MAP Director
- Assist with other MAP centre operations, research team development and support activities as assigned by and agreed with the MAP Director

Centre Organization and Communication
- Play an active role in building and maintaining strong relationships within Unity Health Toronto and the community
- Coordinate and attend internal meetings (MAP Executive Committee, MAP Scientist Meetings, MAP Town Halls, MAP Team Reps and other staff meetings) and provide support for action items arising from these meetings
- Assist in planning and logistics for semi-annual meetings of the MAP Strategic Advisory Council
- Lead the development and implementation of MAP special events (e.g. special presentations and visiting scholars)
- Support the development and implementation of MAP policies in areas including but not limited to internal communications, reporting and fundraising processes.
- Assist with other MAP organization and communication activities as assigned by and agreed with the MAP Director

Reporting and Financial Management
- Manage and support reporting on grant funding, donor funding, and research impacts
- Manage and support regular financial and productivity reports for donor-funded projects
- Assist with other reporting and financial management activities as assigned by and agreed with the MAP Director

**Qualifications/Requirements**:

- Masters Degree in related discipline with minimum 5 years management experience with health or health systems and/or community-based research in the public health/health care sector or demonstrable equivalent combination of specialized education and experience
- Demonstrated commitment to health equity, addressing the social determinants of health, and operating from an anti-racist, anti-oppression framework
- Outstanding relationship management skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with research teams, hospital administration, and community partners
- Proactive with excellent problem-solving skills and ability to adjust with the dynamic needs of the organization
- Exceptional organizational skills to manage multiple complex tasks in a timely manner
- Excellent attention to detail and proven ability to learn new skills
- Get-it-done mindset and comfortable working with ambiguity
- Previous experience in overseeing large teams with direct reports is an asset
