**Location Description**
- Winnipeg is a city of approximately 750,000 located on the Red River, 108 kms north of the US border. Being near the centre of Canada, it is a major transportation centre. The city's population is fairly diverse, representing people from many different cultures. Most of the people are English speaking with French, Filipino and Chinese being other predominant languages. There are about 65,000 First Nations people living in Winnipeg.
There are almost 50 Mennonite churches in Winnipeg, which is home to about 30,000 Mennonites. Winnipeg has two large public liberal arts universities and a Mennonite university (Canadian Mennonite University). There are also two Mennonite private high schools.
Winnipeg temperatures can range from 40°C (104°F) in summer to -45°C (-49°F) in winter, with average summer temperatures around 25.4°C (77.7°F) and average winter temperatures around -12.9°C (8.8°F).

**Qualifications**- Bachelor degree in a related field. Masters degree preferred. (i.e., Social work, Psychology Counselling)
- 3-5 years of experience in working in the area of abuse response and prevention
- Training in the dynamics and the impact of all forms of abuse,
- Training in counselling victims of abuse and abusers, an asset
- Training and/or experience in the area of trauma awareness and response
- Proven interpersonal and communications skills - ability to relate, convey and receive messages accurately and in a positive interpersonal manner
- Proven group facilitation skills; developing, planning, and delivery (public speaking) of workshops, and support groups
- Ability to work with a variety of groups; church members and leaders, and public groups at large
- Proven organizational skills and attention to detail to deal with the demands of the role in a timely and accurate fashion
- Proven Microsoft office computer knowledge; Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point Presentation
- Cultural awareness and cultural competency as they pertain to the Mennonite constituency in general, conservative Mennonite groups, newcomers and Indigenous people
- Availability to work occasional evenings and weekends
- Favorable record check
- Valid driver’s license.

**Job Synopsis**
- The Abuse Response and Prevention Program of Mennonite Central Committee Manitoba (MCCM) seeks to promote healthy family, church and community life. The coordinator of this program must exhibit an ability to respond to interpersonal, family, and church abuse situations and guide both victims and offenders towards a healing process. The goal of this program is to create awareness within family, community and congregational settings of the prevalence and seriousness of abuse, work towards its prevention, and equip people to respond in ways that foster healing.

**Challenges**

**Key Responsibilities**
- Major Responsibilities:

- 50% - Create awareness about abuse and trauma and equip constituency to respond to and prevent abuse in trauma sensitive and victim/survivor centered ways. This includes facilitating workshops and presentations when requested and organizing educational events.
- 15% - Provide and contribute to the development of resources and information about abuse, dynamics of abusive relationships, impact of abuse, response, healing and prevention
- 25 % - Respond to family and church abuse situations; by offering referrals, victim advocacy when appropriate, and consultation on best practices
- 10% - Administration

**Tasks**:

- Create awareness about abuse; response and prevention and equip constituency to respond to and prevent abuse:

- Facilitate Presentations and/or workshops which increase awareness about abuse dynamics and effective responses to abuse and its prevention (may include working collaboratively with contracted expert on occasion)
- Foster collegial relationships with faith-based, community based and government organizations
- Engage the constituency in raising awareness about abuse
- Provide resources and information to church leaders and lay people, equipping them to respond effectively and prevent abuse
- Provide and contribute to the development of resources and information about abuse; dynamics of abusive relationships, impact of abuse, response, healing and prevention:

- Develop, update and promote print and web based resources in collaboration with the MCC Abuse Prevention and Response network
