**What you will do**:

- Maintain the gardens, grounds and habitats at the Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo as directed by the supervisor, including weeding, planting, dead heading, raking, watering, light pruning, and other garden maintenance tasks.
- Operate and maintain hand tools, power tools/equipment, and mobile equipment such as trimmers, blowers, tractors, and attachments
- Identifies and reports all safety hazards and incidents to supervisors
- Answer public inquiries about plants, gardens and general zoo information
- Attends department meetings, training sessions, and zoo functions as required.
- Provides occasional support for events hosted at the zoo
- Provides snow removal and ice management
- Maintain sand bins
- Additional training that may be required and provided by the Zoo includes, WHMIS, workforce orientation, zoonotic disease awareness, vehicle operator training, respiratory protection, pest control, lock out/tag out, hazard assessment & control, fire extinguisher use, Skid steer Training, Code Adam, First Aid, ISA Certification, Pesticide Applicators Licensing, boom lift and Fall Protection.

**What you will bring**:

- At least 3 years’ experience in Landscaping is required
- High School Diploma required
- Class 5 Driver’s license or equivalent is required
- Landscape Gardener certificate preferred
- Fall Arrest Certificate is an asset
- Aerial Work Platform Certificate is an asset
- Skid steer operators’ certificate is an asset
- Standard First Aid is an asset
- Equipment operation and power/non-powered hand tools experience is an asset
- Knowledge and ability to identify plants
- A safety conscious mindset and demonstrated safe work practice experience
- Understands and follows written and oral instructions
- Ability to navigate changing priorities
- Willingness to answer visitor questions and participate in engagement opportunities
- Comfort listening to and asking for direction about assigned tasks
- Flexibility to perform tasks around busy event schedule

**Working Conditions**:

- Extended periods of time walking to work sites across the 125 acres site
- Bending, squatting and kneeling for extended periods of time
- Repetitive movements such as raking, shoveling and pruning
- Pushing and pulling up to 10-40 lbs., unassisted
- Lifting to 50lbs
- Working on uneven / slippery surfaces.
- Exposure to various weather conditions, including extreme cold weather and physical work in very hot weather
- Prolonged noise and vibrations while operating equipment.
- Exposure to exhaust fumes in an outdoor environment
- Will be required to wear appropriate PPE for assigned tasks.
