A Quatics Specialist

**Job Profile**:
Reporting to the Supervisor of Recreation - Aquatics, Leisure and Youth there is an immediate opening for an Aquatics Specialist within the Community Development Division - Recreation & Culture Department.

**What you will be doing**:

- Ensure effective pool deck delivery of aquatic programs and services
- Plan, instruct, evaluate, and document results for aquatic swim lesson participants
- Instruct a variety of aquafit classes including the mentoring of new aquafit instructors
- Plan and implement fun days, special events, aquatic-based land programs and daytime leadership courses
- Perform opening/closing procedures for the pool as required
- Provide support, training, and direction to part-time staff as required
- Assist in skills screening program for recruitment, selection, orientation, and development of aquatics staff
- Support the process for payroll/timesheet submission and authorization for aquatics staff
- Statistical analysis of programs and inputting results daily
- Ensure that all relevant employment and workplace legislated standards are met
- Demonstrate creativity, and skill development and remain current with leading practices and procedures within the field
- Support aquatic meetings, training and attend other corporate meetings as required
- Ensure work is performed safely according to health and safety guidelines and procedures
- Other duties as assigned

**Education**:

- High school diploma required
- Post secondary education is considered an asset

**Experience and Knowledge**:

- Minimum two (2) years of experience in an Instructor Guard, previous experience as a Head Instructor is considered an asset.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to deal effectively with internal and external customers.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and independently as required.
- Strong commitment to providing quality customer service and supporting teamwork.
- Strong organizational skills to deal with fluctuating volumes and pace of work.
- Ability to assess, diffuse or take appropriate action when dealing with difficult/challenging situations.
- Proficient in using Microsoft Word, Excel & Outlook; proficiency in Active Net would be an asset.
- A satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Police Record Check will be required as a condition of hire.

**We are looking for these certificates**:

- High Five - Principles of Healthy Child Development
- Standard First Aid with CPR C and AED
- LSS Instructors & Swim Instructors; NL, Standard First Aid/CPR C.
- Additional advanced qualifications will be considered an asset
- Must be competent in instructing both Deep and Shallow Aquafit classes.
- CALA, Water Art OR aqua fitness certification would be considered an asset.

**We will ask you for these items if you are hired**:

- Current and valid Police Vulnerable Sector Check to be provided prior to commencement in this position.
Proof of your current and valid certificate(s) and/or educational qualifications.
Worker Health and Safety Awareness Training certificate from the Ministry of Labour. (may be obtained post offer)

**Your compensation**:
This position is within Grade 4 of the inside workers union Salary Schedule and has an annual salary range of $52,907 - $56,238.

**Hours of work**:
The current regular hours of work are in accordance with the CUPE 1882 Inside Worker's Collective Agreement, (35 hours per week), Monday to Sunday, and may be scheduled between 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.
