**Job Description**:
The Legal Counsel provides corporate and commercial legal support to Canada Goose both domestically and in a global scope. The primary responsibility of the position is drafting, reviewing and negotiating contracts. In addition, the Legal Counsel will attend to all legal needs of the company which may include assisting with managing the company’s litigation matters, addressing employment law related matters and managing compliance with privacy legislation. The Legal Counsel will work with departments throughout the business in drafting contracts, negotiation as well as managing risk. The position involves a broad and evolving scope of responsibility.
**Key Responsibilities**:
- Support the General Counsel in dealing with business-critical issues relating to commercial law, litigation, privacy and employment law in a global environment.
- Draft, review, and negotiation of a wide variety of client and vendor contracts including those with vendors around the globe.
- Managing the company’s privacy compliance program and keeping up to date with the evolving privacy legal landscape.
- Support the management of the company’s anti-counterfeit program including prevention and enforcement.
- Work with HR department to manage issues relating to employment law.
- Independently address day-to-day commercial work, providing hands-on legal support to the different areas of the business.
- Manage the needs of internal clients independently and being assertive regarding managing risk where appropriate.
- Work in collaboration with cross-functional teams to manage and mitigate risk.
- Develop and implement procedures for contract management and contract administration.
- Implement and manage a precedent system for the company’s contracts, and database of contract templates.
- Manage international legal matters as CG continues its international expansion.
- Manage legal spending in areas of responsibility.
- Play a crucial role in the coaching, training, and support of internal clients and colleagues.
- Participate in various projects as needed.
- Exclusion: the role does not involve working on public company law or securities law.
**Experience, Education and Designations**:
- Law degree from an accredited Canadian law school
- Member in good standing of the Law Society of Upper Canada
- Business-savvy attorney with 3-4 years of commercial law experience at a major law firm and/or in-house experience with a major corporation
- Experience in an organization with international operations and scope
- Exposure to a broad range of legal practice experience
