**Position Summary**:
Reporting to the Senior Manager of Counselling, the Student Support and Intervention Specialist role works to build and strengthen networks in the Seneca community to provide support for students experiencing issues of concern as a result of personal and/or academic situations. This position serves as a resource to faculty, staff and counsellors to support student success by responding quickly and effectively in the early stages to students who have complex mental health issues, requiring skilled facilitation of appropriate referrals and providing ongoing case management where required. The position works with students and stakeholders in developing individual case management plans using a solution-based and stepped-care approach to provide student care.

**Responsibilities**:
**Case Management**
- Provides case management support to students requiring the coordination of multiple services, and liaising with key departments such as Counselling, Academic Area, and Student Conduct to facilitate collaboration on cases.
- Provides consultative advice to contacts regarding students in distress.
- Conducts brief preliminary risk assessment for students presenting in distress or drop-ins, including assessing suicide risk using established protocols, and determines type of support or intervention required (e.g., counselling, physician, security, police, community psychiatry or mental health services) and refer or intervene (if imminent risk).
- Supports the front-line office staff with student inquiries, student supports, and escalated student situations.
- Fosters positive relationships with campus resources and community health services providers.
- Applies knowledge of rules and procedural processes related to Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA) and other relevant legislation.
- Ensures and understands the limits of confidentiality; able to appropriately handle sensitive and private information.

**Administration**
- Enters data into the data base (i.e. student withdrawals, referrals, etc.); photocopies and distributes to appropriate service areas such as Admissions and Financial Assistance Departments.
- Creates accurate and timely documentation and pull reports to provide statistical information when required.

**Communication**
- Represents Personal Counselling department in special events, orientation and staff training, including virtual events and in-person functions as needed.
- Provides information to students, consultation and advising to faculty, other college staff, school board personnel, community agencies, and others on the provision of ALS and Counselling services for students.
- Establishes and enhances relationships with local community resources that can support students.
- Responds to inquiries from Personal Counselling future applicants and confirmed students regarding Personal Counselling services and provides referral as appropriate to academic areas and other college services where appropriate.
- All other duties as assigned.

**Qualifications**:
**Education**
- Minimum four (4) year Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Counselling, Community Mental Health, Psychology.

**Experience**
- Minimum of three (3) years of related experience working with post-secondary student population; for residence life, career development, student affairs, community services.
- Experience working with computer software (e.g., MS office) and data management systems.
- Experience working in environment and directly supporting individuals with complex mental health needs.

**Skills**
- Ability to work with staff and students in a highly collaborative and innovative team-based environment.
- Initiative and good judgement and problem-solving skills to work in a fast-paced multicultural academic environment.
- Able to work independently and have good organizational skills.
