The Wilson School of Design (WSD), located on our Richmond campus, has eight different programs that encourage students to take risks and innovate in small, personalized classes offering intensive hands-on learning experiences and state-of-the-art equipment.

**POSITION OVERVIEW**
The Foundation in Design program (FIND) is seeking to hire for our Qualified Faculty List (QFL) which is utilized for Non-Regular type 1 contracts as they become available. A non-regular Type 1 faculty member is a non-regular faculty member who is hired for a defined period, to teach specific courses or perform specific work such as substitutions, vacation coverage, short-term emergency hires and other work that is not expected to be ongoing. The FIND program is also vetting current instructors from across KPU to be inventoried for our QFL. Calendar descriptions for each course are included at the end of the posting. We are seeking applicants who are qualified to teach one or a selection of the following courses:

- DESN 1110: Drawing for Design
- DESN 1121: Design Connections: Then and Now
- DESN 1130: Design Explorations
- DESN 1160: Design Storytelling
- DESN 1200: Portfolio Studio
- DESN 1210: 3D Form Studio
- DESN 1230: Introduction to Digital Drafting

**OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES**
Faculty members of FIND are also expected to contribute and participate in any of the following:

- Curriculum development and review.
- Assisting students outside of scheduled class time.
- Preparation processes and site visits.
- Service and representation of the programme on various university committees, internally and externally.

**QUALIFICATIONS**
Minimum required qualifications include:

- Bachelor’s Degree in Apparel Design, Product Design, Interior Design, Communication Design, or related discipline
- Minimum of 5 years of diverse experience related to design disciplines
- Evidence of knowledge or expertise appropriate to specific course content
- Demonstration of a clear understanding of related fields
- Post-secondary teaching experience is preferred, but not mandatory

**CALENDAR DESCRIPTIONS**

**DESN 1110 | Drawing for Design**
Students will develop drawing and rendering skills to communicate two
- and three-dimensional objects. They will explore drawing (sketching, rapid visualization, perspective systems, and scaling and rendering techniques) in order to develop and convey ideas for design-related projects.

**DESN 1121 | Design Connections: Then and Now**
Students will examine the ways in which the past and present are connected through designed objects, particularly how designs from the past have inspired contemporary design ideas. They will analyze examples of design in the context of various world cultures, consider design influences throughout history, and investigate issues relating to cultural appropriation.

**DESN 1130 | Design Explorations**
Students will examine design-related issues, theories and practices as a basis for expanding their knowledge of the field of design. They will participate in seminar discussions and project work to promote communication, research, team building, and critical thinking. Students will also investigate opportunities for continuing design studies and potential career options.
