NOSM University (NOSM U), in partnership with the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada (HSFC), is pleased to announce recruitment for the Heart and Stroke Chair in Indigenous and Rural Health.

The Heart and Stroke Chair in Indigenous and Rural Health at NOSM University is responsible for developing scientific advancement in the field of Cardio
- and Cerebrovascular Disease in Indigenous and Rural Communities. The Chair will undertake externally funded research and establish and nurture a collaborative research relationship with Indigenous and Rural Health Organizations in Ontario. The successful incumbent will lead activities promoting knowledge transfer and exchange through initiatives such as provincial, national and international meetings and forums, promotion of clinical practice guidelines, linking quality improvement efforts to evidence-based best practice and other knowledge translation strategies. The Chair will integrate with other Indigenous and Rural Research Units in Ontario and across Canada to establish virtual collaborative research networks and support efforts to establish mentorship and networking vehicles within the area. The Chair shall provide leadership and promote a shared vision across a large geographic area with diverse populations and have the ability to work consultatively and collaboratively with students, residents, faculty, university and hospital administrators, government officials, Indigenous Organizations and the public.

**Responsibilities**:

Specifically, the Chair will:

- Conduct research in the field of cardio
- and cerebrovascular disease in Indigenous and rural communities, addressing scientific uncertainty and scientific advancement;
- Actively support the HSFC as a key spokesperson and advocacy partner on issues related to trends, concerns, advancements and policy in the areas of heart disease and stroke prevention and treatment in Indigenous and rural communities;
- From time to time, and with advance notice, support HSFC fundraising and awareness initiatives by sharing information on the nature and progress of their research. Some examples of how the Chair would be asked to support HSFC would be by delivering presentations at key national, provincial or local HSFC events, providing lab tours, and interacting with major donors/prospective donors.
- Lead activities promoting knowledge transfer and exchange through initiatives such as provincial and national collaboratives and forums;
- Integrate with the CIHR Institutes of Indigenous Peoples’ Health, Circulatory and Respiratory Health and Neurosciences, Mental Health and Addictions and centres in Ontario and across Canada to establish virtual collaborative research networks (as applicable);
- Support the HSFC’s efforts to establish mentorship/networking vehicles across Canada, as a means of building capacity in CCVD population health research; and
- Undertake the normal duties of a faculty member of NOSM University, including participation in the education programs of the Faculty.

- The Chair must hold an MD, be eligible for a licence to practice medicine in Ontario
- Must be eligible for a Faculty appointment in an appropriate Division at NOSM University
- Current curriculum vitae

- statement of current and prospective research interests, including a vision and future research program for the Chair that will enhance scholarly leadership at NOSM University;
- statement regarding teaching experience, interests and plans, including how the Chair will enhance medical education at NOSM University;
- opportunities for training highly qualified personnel;

Appointment begins **July 1, 2023 **(negotiable). Location: Sudbury or Thunder Bay. NOSM University faculty may also hold positions with Laurentian University, Lakehead University, Health Sciences North, Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, or other organizations. Remuneration is competitive and will be based on qualifications and experience.
