Policy and Research Analyst

**Who we need**
Reporting to the Senior Manager Health Systems and Research, the Analyst supports the work of the Ontario Mission team by researching and analyzing data and evidence to be used in all areas of Mission work. Through research synthesis and appraisal, policy analysis and environmental scanning, the Analyst develops evidence tables, briefing notes and memos, collaborates on the development of health systems, policy advocacy materials. The analyst also advises the Senior Manager Health Systems and Research, the Director of Health Policy and Systems, and the Senior Specialist, Public Affairs on health policy and systems recommendations. They will also support policy development across provincial teams as needed.
The Analyst helps develop and support relationships with Ontario-based researchers as needed. At certain key points in the government relations cycle, the Analyst also takes part in supporting related activities, such as advocacy events and stakeholder engagement opportunities.

Keep apprised of, appraise and synthesize research advances in key priority areas
- Research, analyze, interpret and synthesize relevant cardiovascular, cerebrovascular, epidemiologic, public health, social, economic and health charities related data and information to support health policy, public policy, program and communication decisions.
- Review and synthesize the scientific and grey literature on health, social, policy and economic issues, critically appraising the quality and applicability of evidence.
- Identify gaps in the research and policy environment.
- Conduct literature reviews and leverage existing systematic studies
- Stay up-to-date on relevant and evolving issues in the provincial health care system and flag shifts to teams as needed
Support policy development
- Provide evidence and advice to inform Ontario’s public policy and cardiac and stroke care health policy recommendations, ensuring that all recommendations and supporting documents are based on the best available evidence and aligned with H&S national strategy and direction.
- Based on new, emerging and current evidence and policy progress, recommend updates to Ontario recommendations and supporting materials.
- Conduct stakeholder mapping and environmental scans to assess existing policy environments
Support the development of strategy and execution around the delivery of health promotion and advocacy campaigns, including market research, stakeholder mapping and the development of key performance indicators (KPIs) to track success.
- Support researcher engagement, project implementation and government relations efforts
- Support the administration and activation of key projects such as commissioned research projects, government relations activities and events, Development (fund raising)-led projects and events and advocacy and health promotion activities.
**What you bring**
You bring your education and experience in research appraisal, analysis and data collection coupled with skills in policy analysis. You have intellectual curiosity, and take a holistic, systems lens to your analysis. After information gathering from various data and research sources you can synthesize the information, weave a narrative from these various sources and concisely communicate the data and findings to guide H&S policy and health systems priorities.
You are a team player who can be relied on for your strong writing skills, your ability to conduct environmental scans and a clear understanding of how the results can have an impact on what we do.
**Education**
A university undergraduate degree in a health sciences or related discipline with a good understanding of the health policy field. (Master’s degree is an asset but not requirement)
**Experience**
1-3 years’ experience in health research, policy analysis and development, and/or data/ information collection techniques. Experience preparing documents for a variety of audiences.
**Skills**
Can analyze and critically assess complex health, scientific and social data/information, draw appropriate conclusions and articulate clear and focused policy and/or direction.
Has the ability to understand advocacy and health policy issues and make systematic and rational judgments based on the relevant information.
Understands the complexities of the healthcare system and can synthesize information in order to make recommendations to improve health outcomes.
Communication and Team-Building
