**About the Position**:
Under the supervision of the Program Supervisor/Senior Youth Worker, in consultation with the Family Preservation Program Supervisor, and in conjunction with the program team, the Youth Worker is responsible for supervising and counselling youth and families on an individual and group basis. Generally, the Youth Worker is responsible for overall case management and case co-ordination activities of their youth, within the parameters of the program. The Youth Worker may also be responsible for delivering basic care, competency development, recreational and counselling services to all or a portion of the youth in the program.

In the Family Preservation Program, the Youth Worker is responsible for providing case management to children/youth or families on an individual basis, in collaboration with the full time Family Preservation Worker. This position is responsible for overall case management, collaboration with community partners and support to create or strengthen relationships with existing natural support networks. The Youth Worker may be required to facilitate psychoeducational and life skill groups for youth who fit the mandate of the program. The caseload of this position may consist of families, children/youth or a combination based on programming needs.

Schedule for this position is Fridays - 8:30am-4:30pm, Saturdays, Sundays, Mondays - 3-11pm, Tuesdays - 1-9pm.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Establish helping relationships with youth and their support networks.  
- Create positive interactions to enhance adaptive functioning, social skills, recreational opportunities, self-regulation skills, life-skills, and connection to the community for youth.
- Provide youth with guidance to assist them in addressing problem situations and/or behaviors.  
- Demonstrate competent use of a range of assessment techniques relevant to problem assessment including observation techniques, use of surveys, questionnaires and rating scales.
- Provide youth with information, knowledge, education and advice to assist youth in addressing problem situations and/or behaviours.
- Establish professional working relationships with agency colleagues, social service workers and other service professionals.
- Work from a strength-based and harm reduction lens. Provide case management services that are person-centred, based in family preservation philosophies, and respect the diverse needs of the service participants.

**Requirements & Qualifications**:

- Child and Youth Care Diploma at a Community College level or a degree in human services. A combination of experience and education may be considered.
- Six months’ experience in family and youth work; two years’ experience preferred.
- Strong counselling, program planning, organizational and communication skills.
- Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office programs.
- Clear Child Intervention Record Check, dated within the past six months and Clear Police Information Check with vulnerable sector, dated within past six months.
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License, 3-year non-commercial Driver’s Abstract with fewer than six demerits, and use of reliable vehicle with $2M Third Party Liability insurance.
