About School District 69 (Qualicum)
School District 69 (Qualicum) is centrally situated on east Vancouver Island and covers the area of Nanoose Bay to Bowser and spans from Errington across the Strait of Georgia to Lasqueti Island. We serve a student population of approximately 4700 students. School District 69 (Qualicum) consists of eight elementary schools (Grades K-7), two secondary schools (Grade 8-12), an alternate school (PASS/Woodwinds) and a Distributed Learning program to support home-learning families called the Collaborative Education Alternative Program (CEAP). False Bay School on Lasqueti Island is entirely off-grid with an immense solar project recently completed. School District 69 (Qualicum) also embraces many community organizations through various school programs. The area’s natural beauty, never-ending beaches, mild climate and small-town charm make it a popular tourist destination and a great opportunity to have a career in paradise.
**Assignment**: Students grade 5 to adults - Multiple Subject Area
Support for students who are in alternate programming at multiple sites with the majority of the working at Winchelsea Place.
1.00 FTE TEMPORARY
Commencing as soon as possible until the full return of the incumbent or until June 30, 2023 or upon notification that the temporary position will end earlier due to budgetary issues or declining enrollment. The anticipated end date of this assignment is February 28, 2023.
This assignment may change to meet the needs of the school's educational program, grade organization, and/or enrolment.
Work collaboratively within a team teaching environment and co-teach cohorts of secondary students;
Plan and deliver developmentally responsive learning experiences which reflect the unique needs of learners in an alternative school context;
Plan and implement effective student assessment in order to improve student learning and to ensure instructional practice which is responsive to student needs;
Actively contribute to the success of the school growth plan and district achievement contract;
Work collaboratively with staff members and communicate effectively with staff, students, and parents;
Create an engaging, respectful and inclusive learning environment for students;
Work in consultation with School Based Team members in the development, writing, implementation and assessment of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for students who require additional supports, adaptations, and/or modifications;
In collaboration with the School Based Team monitor and develop learning plans for students;
Integrate use of Information Technology (IT) to support teaching and learning, manage information and carry-out professional communication;
Meet the diverse behavioural and emotional needs of student in an alternative school setting;
Offer instruction in a continuous entry program with flexible approaches to facilitate the personalization of student learning;
Modify and adapt the secondary curriculum to meet the diverse needs of all learners; Work with Career Program staff to facilitate a career evaluation and work experience opportunity for students;
Use inquiry and project-based learning as a core teaching strategy;
Ability to self-regulate in stressful and or emotionally charged situations.
A valid BC Teaching Certificate and familiarity with the BC curriculum at the secondary level;
Teaching Degree;
Experience working with designated students at the secondary level, including supporting the development, implementation of all Education Plans (IEPs), student learning plans and safety plans;
Experience working with students in an alternative school setting, particularly students with severe social and emotional challenges and substance abuse issues.
