School District 69 (Qualicum) is centrally situated on east Vancouver Island and covers the area of Nanoose Bay to Bowser and spans from Errington across the Strait of Georgia to Lasqueti Island. We serve a student population of approximately 4700 students. School District 69 (Qualicum) consists of eight elementary schools (Grades K-7), two secondary schools (Grade 8-12), an alternate school (PASS/Woodwinds) and a Distributed Learning program to support home-learning families called the Collaborative Education Alternative Program (CEAP). False Bay School on Lasqueti Island is entirely off-grid with an immense solar project recently completed. **JOB FUNCTION**:
An employee in this classification performs tasks which require specialized knowledge and skills unique to the

operation of library/media services. The Library Technician will be responsible for the effective day-to-day

operation of the District Resource Centre.

**REPORTING TO**:
Associate Superintendent or Designate

**ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK**:
1. Acquires, processes and catalogues print, non-print and machine readable resources using automated

systems and conforming to MARC and AACRII standards.

2. Maintains the district resource collection including assessment and de-selection.

3. Maintains an on-line catalogue of available resources.

4. Acts as district ERAC contact.

5. Monitors the budget for Resource Centre acquisitions.

6. Maintains a circulation system for resource materials, including scheduling or reserving materials as

requested, overdues, inventory, and statistics.

7. Performs clerical tasks, e.g., typing, maintaining filing systems, correspondence.

8. Works directly with School Librarians and District Curriculum staff to determine what learning resources

are to be purchased.

9. Coordinates the district-wide VHS/DVD public performance licenses.

10. Renews and distributes to schools regular publications, e.g., Westcoast Reader.

11. Compiles and distributes lists of newly catalogued resources.

12. Purchases supplies and equipment.

13. Performs other job related duties.

**REQUIRED ABILITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS**:
1. Successful completion of a two-year Library Technician program at a recognized institution.

2. Minimum of one year experience within the last five years performing similar duties.

3. In-depth knowledge of automated library systems and coding, i.e., MARC (Machine readable

cataloguing) and AACRII (Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules).

4. Accurate typing/keyboarding skills and a working knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet

software programs.

5. Ability to work with a minimum of supervision.

6. Ability to work with and assist teaching staff.
